Recruiting engineers is tough.
However, some companies are wining. They offer:
- Purposeful work
- Flexible schedule
- Freedom of location, not tied to an office
- Trust from employer
- Fewer meetings, more deep work
- Work in a great team
- Work with modern tools
The pandemic exposed the fact that for many people, the only social interaction they have is in the office.
They haven't developed any social connections beyond their co-workers. Which is bad!
Plus, social bonds can be nurtured in remote teams too:

Async communication will transform your company:
- Fewer meetings
- Quieter messaging platform
- Employees do deep work
- Employees enjoy a flexible life style
Simple advice that will change your life:
- Learn English -> to speak Internet's language
- Learn how to code -> to have market demand
- Gain a few years of work experience -> to increase your market value
- Apply to remote jobs -> to work high paid jobs from wherever home is
"We lost 20% of our employees after returning to the office.
To recover from that we went remote.
The cost of losing you best employees is much higher than the effort to adapt to a flexible work environment."
"We went remote and increased salaries.
The cost of losing our best engineers is higher than the cost of adapting to market movements."
- Several startup CTOs
Hybrid work = 100% remote work + 100% office work
- Employees expect 100% remote work
- Companies expect 100% office work
What can possibly go wrong with these expectations?
Old normal:
- Commute 2 hours a day
- Worked 8 hours a day
- Sit in meetings most of the day
- No time to focus on deep work
- Burn out
New normal:
- Work 8 hours a day
- Reduce meetings by doing async processes
- More time to focus on deep work
- More productive
"I work in a remote team, and I have friends I have never met in person. I didn't even know this was possible."
Efficient Remote Work relies on:
- 1 statement
- 4 core values.
Managers of remote teams need to foster productive team work, and a socially bonded team.

"I haven't applied to remote jobs in the US, because I don't have a US Visa. Do I actually need a Visa to work remote for a US company?"
- This is a very common question I get in my DMs
TL;DR: No, you do NOT need a Visa. But you should understand the nuances though:
Open plan offices are terrible for software developers. They are noisy, and it's hard to focus on any task.
Most software developers who are going to the office, simply use headphones all day when they aren't having meetings.
Shouldn't they work from home in the first place?

#RemoteWork
My post about Software Developer salaries around the world went viral.
A common take was that US companies should simply outsource all work to Pakistan.
It's not that simple, though. As a Fractional CTO I've seen US Founders go wrong with outsourcing in many ways:
Software Developer salaries have crazy variations around the world.
One thing is crystal clear, though:
- Regardless of where you live, working remotely for a US company will increase your salary.
A trending hiring strategy for remote CTOs right now is to poach top engineers out of companies that announced back to the office policies.
You know what? It works!
