Indonesian comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono says he has a “strong feeling” Indonesia’s government is trying to silence his comedy through legal threats rather than actually send him to prison:
“I have a strong feeling that these politicians don’t want to do anything to me. I don’t think it’s going to get to the point where I’m sent to prison. It’s going to make the government look bad. I hope I’m right.”

Pandji Pragiwaksono is the biggest comedian from Indonesia. But for him to perform in his home country, he must have his material approved by the government.
“I’m required to send a transcript of my jokes to the police,” he tells Variety. Only after the cops sign off on his punchlines will they provide a permit for the event.
After one special where he targeted Indonesia’s two largest Muslim organizations for accepting state mining concessions (therefore tying themselves to the Indonesian government), six people filed police reports accusing Pragiwaksono of blasphemy.
He was interrogated on four occasions, for six hours each. Pragiwaksono believes the campaign against him is politically motivated and that the vice president is behind it.
“A week after the special was released, over 1,000 Muslim people poured into the streets protesting my jokes, saying that it was blasphemy and it was condescending Islam,” Pragiwaksono says. “It caught me by surprise because I have no intentions of condescending Islam. The joke wasn’t even about religion.”

Prabowo labels journalists, analysts, and NGOs as “londo ireng”:
“Londo-Londo Ireng ini sampai sekarang masih ada. Hanya dia sekarang pakai baju lain, kan? Wartawan, jurnalis apa itu? Pengamat, LSM. LSM harus kita tanya, yang gaji lo siapa? Yang bayar listrikmu siapa? Yang bayar handphonemu siapa?”

the way the universe works when I just finished reading Animal Farm and now watching the Circe and the pigs scene in The Odyssey is fucking mind-blowing.
Multiple Indonesian trans women were beaten, kicked, and doused with urine during a violent attack on the streets while trying to survive amid systemic poverty.
We urge international media, human rights organizations, and the global community to help ensure this incident receives the international attention it deserves and to demand accountability, as violence against transgender people in Indonesia continues to raise serious human rights concerns.
Lorde calls out Spotify in new post:
“Hey @spotify i'm gonna go out on a limb n say we don't want this. Not only is this inaccurate (not the song i did that in) but reducing a song to an ai generated meaning right at the source feels like it limits free interpretation imo. At least make it possible for artists to opt out please💘”
