I am honored and grateful to be introduced as Africa’s Renewable Energy Champion under #RECI with @REN21.
I look forward to working with REN21 partners to strengthen policy dialogue, advocacy, knowledge & experience sharing, and to advance renewables ..1)
Ethiopia’s long-term investments in renewable energy and resilience are paying off during today’s global energy shocks. From the #GERD inauguration in 2025 to bold policies like banning non-electric vehicle imports in 2024, the country has reduced its vulnerability to external oil shocks. This is proof that strategic planning and renewable energy investment strengthen energy security. #Africa must now accelerate its transition and harness its vast renewable potential. We’re excited to welcome @UNSPBF to the REN21 network!
UNSPBF brings together scientific expertise, policymakers, business leaders and civil society to advance integrated environmental solutions and partnerships that drive sustainable and equitable outcomes across sectors.
Together, we’ll emphasise cross-sectoral collaboration that places renewables at the heart of environmental, economic, and development solutions, reinforcing the case for renewables-based economies.
We look forward to working with UNSPBF’s global team, led by their Executive Secretary, Shereen Zorba to translate knowledge into coordinated action.
We’re excited to welcome Dr. Seleshi Bekele Awulachew @seleshi_b_a as the newest Renewable Energy Champion. His leadership helped deliver 7,270 MW of hydropower in Ethiopia and expand renewable grid access across East Africa. ⚡🌍

We’re delighted to welcome @CCREEE_GNSEC to the REN21 network!
With its mission to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable energy markets across the Caribbean, CCREEE brings a vital regional perspective to our shared mission.
Their vision — ensuring access to clean, affordable and reliable energy services while boosting energy security, reducing emissions and supporting resilient, low-carbon economies — aligns strongly with REN21’s efforts to accelerate a renewables-based future through global cooperation and shared action.
Together, we’re powering a just, sustainable and climate-resilient energy transition for people and the planet.
We’re excited to welcome @ieefa_institute to the REN21 network!
IEEFA brings market-based financial analysis and evidence-driven insights on energy trends — a perfect complement to REN21’s mission of advancing a renewables-based economy.
Together, we’ll push for a future where clean energy isn’t only good for the planet, but also financially sensible and accessible: a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy.
We look forward to working with IEEFA’s global team to strengthen the data- and finance-driven case for renewables, support informed policy, and broaden the knowledge base for a clean, secure, and affordable energy future.
#COP30 fell short of providing the tools needed to build a renewables-based economy. From clear finance commitments to a fossil fuel phase-out.

REN21 is proud to be a supporter of the Belém Declaration on Global Green Industrialization — a shared commitment to accelerate industrial decarbonisation, strengthen #renewableenergy supply chains, and ensure that the transition creates economic and social opportunity for all regions. The Declaration reinforces the core pillars of REN21’s mission and Vision 2030: connecting actors across sectors, advancing coherent and data-informed policy and driving a renewables-based economy that is resilient and globally inclusive.
Congratulations @UNIDO for pulling it all together.

Driving Climate Resilience & Adaptation with Renewables: Solutions for People & Nature
🗓️ 12 Nov | 16:45–18:15
📍 Blue Zone – Room 5
Renewables don’t just cut emissions — they power climate resilience, protect livelihoods & support nature.
In two weeks, REN21 will join the global community in Belém for COP30 - bringing the power of collaboration to the heart of the climate negotiations.
Our delegation, @RanaAdibX , @RamonMendezGala , Laura E. Williamson, and @RochelleGluzman will represent REN21’s mission to accelerate the shift towards a renewables-based economy that builds energy security, resilience, and shared prosperity.
As a global convener and multi-stakeholder network, REN21 brings together governments, civil society, industry, and international organisations to align action, connect policy spaces, and drive systemic transformation.
Throughout COP30, REN21 will convene and contribute to key discussions that spotlight renewables as the foundation for resilient economies and sustainable development:
🟡Driving Systems Change for the Renewable Energy Era, cohosted with @IRENA
📅12 November, 10:30–11:30 AM
📍Global Renewables Hub
🟡Driving Climate Resilience and Adaptation with Renewables: Solutions for People and Nature, Cohosted with @RenewablesGrid and @therealCAN_U
📅12 November, 16:45–18:15 PM
📍@UNFCCC Blue Zone
🟡Renewables for Development: Building Prosperity and Resilient Economies, Cohosted with @IISD_Energy and @ieefa_institute
📅13 November, 12:30–13:30 PM

Industry leaders and businesses have issued a clear and strong message in @nytimes : securing economic development, jobs, reliable energy, and resilient, equitable societies is no longer possible without renewables.
The world is already on the path to a renewables-based economy, there is no turning back. But achieving the scale of system change needed to move beyond fossil fuels requires all of us.
This week’s #NYCW @ClimateGroup and the @UN General Assembly is the opportunity to join in multi stakeholder conversations to accelerate the new energy era.
Governments, businesses, civil society, science, academia and international organisations must join forces to accelerate the shift to renewables and ensure no one is left behind.
