Congrats, @_ajawilson22 on earning @wnba Western Conference Player of the Month for June! 👏
BREAKING: The Los Angeles Clippers are nearing deal sending Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, 2 first-round picks, 1 pick swap and 2 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN. A return to Canada for the Raptors champion and two-time Finals MVP.
There wasn't a better guard during the month of June than Jackie Young.
Young earned a spot on three of our four Starting Five of the Week teams, and for good reason. She was the only guard to average at least (20.0) points while shooting 50/45/95 for the month, all while averaging (7.3) assists and posting an elite (3.20) assist-to-turnover ratio. Simply put, no guard combined efficient scoring with elite playmaking better than Young.
The eight-year veteran put together one statement performance after another. She recorded back-to-back 25-point, 5-assist games in wins over Golden State (27 points, 5 assists) and Seattle (29 points, 6 assists), then followed that by posting consecutive points-assists double-doubles against Portland (18 points, 10 assists) and Minnesota (16 points, 10 assists). To close out June, Young finished with at least 20 points and five assists in four of her final five games, including a 28-point, 8-assist outing against the Chicago Sky.
Her production translated directly to winning. Las Vegas finished June tied for the league's best record during the month, with Young playing a pivotal role in the Aces' success on both ends of the floor.
After an unusually slow start to the season that included back-to-back scoreless performances, there were questions about when Young would find her rhythm. June answered those questions emphatically. The player we expected to see entering the season finally arrived, and she looked every bit like one of the league's premier guards.
Following tonight's Commissioner's Cup championship game, Young and the Aces will turn their attention to July, beginning with another meeting against the Chicago Sky on Friday before a matchup with the Indiana Fever on Sunday. 🪄
Becky Hammon says she’s not apologizing to Jalen Brunson
“Jalen, all he did was prove history wrong. He proves he’s an outlier, so you can put his name next to Steph Curry and Isiah Thomas, and I thought he played brilliantly, especially down the stretch. I mean, he was that 1A dude, but apologize? I’m never gonna apologize for having an opinion. That’s what ESPN pays me for.”
