This is what our state legislature would like to go back to. They see disabled children as a drain on society. Doing everything they can to avoid their civic responsibility to make sure these children are safe and cared for properly.
Away from their home and their family who cares for them over 90% will be sexually abused. 90%…. The party that screams illegal immigration drives the sex traffic industry.. wants to rip these children away from the safety of their families and put them right in the hands of those that would take advantage of their disability for sexual gratification.
We have a system in this country, when legislatures fail to take care of their responsibilities when they refuse to listen to the will of their constituents, you don’t have to wait till the next election. You can recall and fire them now! And that’s just what we are doing, representative @Livingston4AZ , @MatthewGress , @MichaelCarbone and @SteveMontenegro failed to act in good faith to take care of these children, conspiring to be bipartisan legislation, using these children to try to gain points against the governor. Arizona Republican legislators are painting parents of disabled chiidren as welfare seekers and schemers.

Let me tell you about a real scheme.

When inpatient institutions closed, which were 100% funded by the state, the government was supposed to reinvest some of those funds into home and community-based services—just like the Americans with Disabilities Act and the US Supreme Court Olmstead ruling require.

But that’s not what happened.

Instead, they handed the burden to families, expecting us to provide 24/7, medical-level care as unpaid labor. And we did it—because we love our children. Because we had no other choice.

Now, these same lawmakers—particularly the local Republicans—are painting us as welfare seekers and schemers. As if we’re trying to cheat the system just because we’re asking for the services our children are legally and morally entitled to.

Outpatient (in-home care) is much less expensive, has better outcomes for families, and has less chance for abuse and neglect of vulnerable people with profound disabilities.

They used families to save billions. And now they smear us to dodge accountability.

Disabled people deserve better. Families deserve support. We are not the problem. We are the safety net—because the one that was promised to our children never came.

In an unsigned, three-page opinion, the justices simply sent the second case—O’Connor-Ratcliff v. Garnier—back to the lower courts to reconsider the case in light of the court’s findings in Lindke.

In O’Connor-Ratcliff v. Garnier, a lower court judge found that the actions of two trustees of the Poway Unified School District, who blocked two parents after they criticized them on their personal social media accounts, constituted government action.
