With so many posts on ‘women don’t come to India’ and ‘women go abroad’, here is my own story.
My daughter did her three years of graduation in Delhi. We, then, lived in a super posh colony in South Delhi. College was 15 minutes walk of which 7 mins was within colony and seven on main road.
The main road walk was along fencing of a very premium government auditorium which was three min walk. Balance 4 mins were along main road on proper footpath with an institutional area wall right. She reached college gate.
SAFEST right? No shops, no public, main road, no people and absolutely safe road.
Cars would slow down and guys would ask her to ‘accompany’! They would ask ‘rate’. I was sure someone would be doing the same with the guys sister, daughter, wife too. In second year I gave her a car exclusively. No stepping on road. Ever.
Three years and she simply said I WILL NOT LIVE IN INDIA. IF THIS IS THE STATE OF DELHI AND SOUTH DELHI, I WILL NOT STAY IN INDIA ANYWHERE. I DO NOT WANT MY PARENTS TO TENSE UP EACH TIME I GO OUT.
This was 13 years back. She has right to her life. She is abroad since then.
I could afford. What about 95% plus who cannot?
Nirbhaya was ‘our’ daughter. Every daughter is a potential Nirbhaya.
Absolutely no improvement in law and order. It’s same today.
@Meghaa_B I can say from my personal experience that the amount of mindspace work in medicine draws in - it leaves an unhealthy little for anything else. Like a lot of things in medicine.... This needs change, too.
@Meghaa_B Probably because the work-life balance is typically so badly skewed in Medicine and Residency that these people have very little going on outside the hospital to draw conversion fodder from?
Dear Krishan,
I co-head and run a liver-diseases clinical research unit with a specialized division actively working on complementary and alternative medicines pharmacovigilance in the context of Ayush and hepatology, the only one in the world.
My team members include Ayurveda and Homeopathy practitioners who actively collect data and care for people affected by organ injuries due to the alternative medicine system that has been overglorified by health-illiterates such as yourself.
My research Unit is the only one in the world which actively publishes pharmacovigilance research aspects on Ayush, with money spent from our own pockets, taking a toll on our savings for family and future. We do it unconditionally for our people, including you, come what may.
No no other clinical research unit or clinician/physicians in India are interested in protecting public health from the Ayush system because they don't have the funds, guts or balls to take it head on. But we do. And we are not cowards who strive for diplomacy in healthcare like you do.
We face harassment, lose money fighting litigation and paying lawyers by bringing out the truth regarding the absence of benefits from alternative medicines industry and potential for great harm to public.
And what do we get in return? Complete medical science-illiterates and social media keyboard-warrior cowards like yourself, without an ounce of humanism or care for the public and patients, totally ignorant about families breaking down due to bread-winners dying of organ injuries after the use of alternative medicines, arguing against our hardwork.
You do it from ignorance and with lackadaisical attitude against voices such as mine, the latter trained to focus on, no matter what the price or consequences, the improvement of public health and science literacy in this banana republic which is fast regressing into ancient times.
You are not my concern. This is not your time. You had yours and you lost. You are still the regressive person you were always meant to be. It's the generations that will come after you, who will realize that your were wrong, plain and simple and hear voices like mine and change for the better. And then your anecdotal stories on alternative medicine and about how your great grand parents and your grand parents will become silly fairy tales.
Go take a walk. You are a wasteful obstacle only, akin to a mass of neuronal mess feeding a blob of protoplasm without goals, never a worthy opponent for me in the bigger picture and you have earned your mute.
Most 'allopathic' doctors (such as myself) would say nothing about Ayurveda or homeopathy simply because they do not have enough knowledge about it. It takes a special kind of nincompoop to speak BS with confidence about something they don't know.
Why is the Indian Psychiatric Society more concerned about the mental health impact of the media coverage of covid-19 and has no time to talk about the mental health impact of close to a million deaths?
After losing Delhi elections on February 8 last year, when BJP leaders made incendiary threats, they eventually kept complaining and threatening till there were riots in Delhi in late February. And Kapil Mishra who threatened violence still walks free.
Just saying.
What the actual fuck? The point of cancelling rallies is to avoid large public gatherings. It's pointless if the public is still literally gathering. What is this clown doing?
@SaketGokhale@drharshvardhan Regardless, a scientific explanation / backup data to a claim would really have been appreciated. I don't expect it of the politicians, but expectations are higher from ICMR.
@SaketGokhale@drharshvardhan On the other hand, Dr Ella would have been talking about the actual testing of efficacy in a study, which might not have been done.
