i highly recommend being friends with ambitious people. Their drive pushes you to also work hard for yourself. They inspire you to do better, be better. Their good traits rub off on you. You start to want better for yourself and you grow.
Another mass grave: An investigation team responsible for undertaking excavations and exhumations in the #Kurukkalmadam mass grave in Batticaloa conducted a field visit on Thursday to plan how to proceed. #SriLanka

@muthoni_njakwe Commonwealth Scholar here🙋🏻♀️Make sure you have a clear, specific and pragmatic vision clearly articulated through your DI statement. Use concrete examples, focus less on jargon/technicalities, and tell a compelling story.
“…the arc is long. Whether it bends toward justice will depend not only on the patience of its architects, but on their courage to push past the point where pragmatism becomes paralysis”
Thanks @KalaniWrites for weaving through the multiple issues confronting #SriLanka
I really like this initiative. Do the work you need to do in class or as part of a (free) school-initiative.
One reason that teachers do tuition is bec of ↘️ wages. I hope we will see even a marginal ⬆️ in the next budget.

I too engage in spontaneous acts like restocking the fridge and other “frivolous” habits 😌 හිහි.
Cause people only notice this critical work when it stops happening. If only unpaid, feminized tasks like household errands counted as “productive work.”Wild concept… I know.
Assuming this is a spontaneous moment, it’s good if she uses this as a random promotional act to connect with voters and bring a fresh change. However, doing this regularly as a habit is not wise. As the PM, her time should be focused on more productive work for the betterment of the nation
This 👇🏽 + the emotional labour women undertake in guiding men through unlearning ingrained behaviours. While achieving equality at home requires shared effort, the emotional burden of facilitating this change often rests heavily on women.
If you grew up with your father working and your mother being the homemaker, and are in a marriage where you and your wife are both working, you should actively unlearn a lot of things you may have learnt via observation in order to make your marriage happy and successful.
@Crazymoments01@AMAZlNGNATURE There’s a woodpecker in my area that keeps pecking at a metal pole. I wonder what Charles Darwin would think about that 🫢
Grateful to @LSE_ID and the CYHU team for having me on their podcast 🎙️
We explored how peer support + informal networks can make a world of difference for first-gen grads navigating uncharted waters.
Listen on @ApplePodcasts, @Spotify or any major streaming platform.
How important are informal networks for first-generation salaried workers?
In the latest episode of So We Heard, Ragini is joined by Renushi the founder of a feminist peer-support network for first generation college graduates in suburban Colombo

@Amethystinia You don’t need one. I flew last week. Make sure you have your return ticket and preferably proof of accommodation at immigration — in case they ask (although they didn’t, for me)
Fascinating read from @TheEconomist on why young men + women are drifting apart. I wonder if this trend, fuelled by the "manosphere," partly extends to the Global South? A compelling case for policies that reduce the unpaid care burden on women, alongside better public education.
The growing gulf between young men and women in developed countries is striking. Unpicking what is going on is not simple. But read why this trend is concerning, and what can be done about it https://t.co/BXWVePJeCq 👇
Tea industry's profits are based on 200 years of slavery, disenfranchisement and exploitation. So if the plantation owners say it can't survive the wage hike to Rs. 1700 then so be it.
Adapt or collapse. We don't need your brand of 'success'
@Zainab__Balogun 10y ago, I visited a home for teenage mothers where I met a girl who was barely 12y and pregnant. We played dress-up — I was the student, and she wanted to be the teacher. I made her a sari out of newspapers.
There's a quiet space in my heart where I often think of her.
