On this past Good Friday, I was honored to visit the Martin Luther King Center @cubacmlk in Havana, Cuba. More than 40 years ago, Reverend Raúl Suárez welcomed my father @RevJJackson and I felt the same spirit of faith and courage that continues to unite our communities. Hope still bridges divides. May we continue to walk the path of peace for a more just future
40 years after Rev. Jesse Jackson traveled to Cuba and met Fidel Castro, his son Rep. Jonathan Jackson came to Havana with a message of peace, dialogue and solidarity. “A Cuban life is just as important as an American life,” he said.
My constituents in IL‑01 and people across this country are demanding affordable groceries, access to health care, and a government that works for them. While President Trump chooses to posture like an imperialist, ignoring the real needs of the American people, House Democrats remain laser‑focused on making life safer, healthier, and more affordable for every family. We will continue holding this corrupt and out‑of‑control administration accountable, because the American people deserve nothing less.
🚨BREAKING🚨
The House just PASSED @RepGregoryMeeks' Iran War Powers Resolution.
This is a loud and unambiguous message to Donald Trump on behalf of the American people: it’s time to end his deeply unpopular and illegal war of choice in Iran.
Didn't take long for Republicans to disenfranchise a majority-African American district in Alabama. When courts allow partisan gerrymandering, they are giving states a green light to silence African American voters and undermine the very idea of representative government. I will not back down; I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors who fought for every single aspect of our multi-racial democracy.
The Trump administration lifting their bond program that mandated certain visitors to pay up to $15,000 per person to enter the US is proof how arbitrary and erratic our immigration policies have become.
If the United States wants to remain a friendly host, we need to welcome tourists and visitors from all over the world.
As Haitian Heritage Month ends, I want to honor the Haitian roots woven into Chicago’s history. Known as the Father of Chicago, Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable laid the foundation for the vibrant, world‑class city we know today. Haitians have long strengthened the cultural, economic, and social fabric of this nation, and their legacy continues to inspire, uplift, and shape our communities.
Happy Pride Month! Grateful to stand with the LGBTQI+ community as they celebrate the power of living boldly and authentically. This month honors the progress made in the fight for equality and reminds us of the important work that still lies ahead. Here’s to visibility, joy, and unwavering pride.
Congratulations to the talented Kai Isoke Ali-Landing for admission into Carnegie Hall's 2026 National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NYO-USA)! It is always an honor to highlight accomplished and bright students from #IL01
Weeks later, and it’s still tough to stomach. The Mallard Creek HS boys' track team put in the work, ran the races, and dominated—only to be disqualified for a moment of pure joy.
While @NCHSAA chose technicalities over sportsmanship, the culture knows who the real champions are. Sending love and respect to the Mavericks. They can't erase your talent.
Mallard Creek boys track and field was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct after winning the 4x400 relay in the final event of the day. Had the result stayed, the Mavericks would have won the team state championship. Instead, they remained in second place.

Wishing a blessed Eid al-Adha to all who are celebrating around the world. May this day of gratitude, sacrifice, and compassion bring peace and unity to our diverse and vibrant communities.
This Memorial Day, we honor the extraordinary men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Their courage defines the very soul of our country. True patriotism means protecting the democracy they died to defend and ensuring we live up to the ideals of justice, freedom, and equality for all.
Today, we remember. Tomorrow, we continue the work to build a nation where peace is the norm, war is the last resort, and every veteran receives fully funded VA care.
As we approach Memorial Day, I honor the ultimate sacrifice our troops have made and demand we bring them home from this reckless, unconstitutional war.
I am thankful for the swift actions of law enforcement, and I am praying for the bystander who was injured. I unequivocally state, there is no place for political violence in the United States of America, and our differences must be resolved at the ballot box.
Statement from @SecretService on the shooting near the White House, the gunman has died and a bystander injured:
“Shortly after 6:00 p.m. Saturday, an individual approached a Secret Service checkpoint in the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. A preliminary investigation indicates that as the individual approached, he removed a weapon from his bag and began firing at posted officers.
Secret Service police officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. During the shooting, a bystander was also struck by gunfire. It remains unclear whether the bystander was struck by the suspect’s initial gunfire or during the subsequent exchange of gunfire.
No injuries were sustained by Secret Service personnel. The President was at the White House during the incident but was not impacted.
The incident remains under investigation.”
👏🏿Speaking truth to power 👏🏿 @HouseGOP falling lockstep behind the fraudulent prosecution of the Southern Poverty Law Center is a dangerous escalation in the targeting of Civil Rights organizations. Weaponizing the justice system against groups that defend marginalized communities is an abuse of power with profound consequences for our work toward a multiracial democracy where everyone can thrive.
We must confront the forces of racism, bigotry, and extremism wherever they appear. I stand with @splcenter and commend their unwavering commitment to fighting injustice and ensuring the promise of the Civil Rights movement becomes a reality for all.
They’re not coming after @SPLCenter DESPITE their work to protect the rights of Black voters. They’re coming after it BECAUSE of it.
Wednesday’s hearing did not fool us. This is a campaign to deny racism is real & civil rights are necessary. We won’t back down.

This #NationalEMSWeek, we recognize the #IAFF members providing critical emergency medical care in communities across North America.
Happy 61st Birthday @NatlHeadStart! Thank you for helping more than 40 million children across the country, like the ITAV Leadership Academy I was blessed to visit, get the strong start they deserve, both in school and in life. Head Start reflects the very best of our country, a commitment to opportunity, community, and the belief that every child deserves a chance to succeed.
Today, on Día de la Afrocolombianidad, we honor the ancestors who fought for freedom in 1851 and stand with the communities still fighting for equality today. On the 175th anniversary, may Colombia’s future reflect the dignity, equity, and power Afro-Colombians have always deserved. I also recognize the great leaders like @LuisGMurillo and @Osgazu, tireless champions for the rights of Afro-Colombian people. @ColombiaEmbUSA
"Barney proved that what mattered most was the work you did for others. I truly believe that we are closer to a more equal world because of Barney Frank."
- Equality Caucus Chair @RepMarkTakano on the passing of CEC Co-Founder, former Rep. Barney Frank.
Bernie Moreno. Juan Ciscomani. Carlos Gimenez. Young Kim. Victoria Spartz.
None of them were U.S. citizens at birth. What about them?
This is just a disgusting excuse to target Democratic Representatives who serve our nation honorably. There is no limit to the hypocrisy.
