Like a lot of Californians, one of my favorite places to visit in the summer is a local farmers’ market. I stopped by the Concord Farmers’ Market today, met with vendors and community members, and discussed recent USDA grant funding to support local farmers’ markets. Glad to see that business is booming and our community is supporting local farms and vendors!

I have heard from healthcare providers across Contra Costa about the challenges they are facing following the Republicans’ extreme cuts to healthcare, which are pushing more people off of their insurance. Today, I toured the San Ramon Regional Medical Center and addressed its governing board about my work to restore funding for healthcare and address the underlying causes of expensive care in the U.S. as the Ranking Member on the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee.

Small businesses are at the heart of our community here in CA-10, andthis afternoon I continued my Business Listening Tour at four local businesses in San Ramon. Whistleblowers are often the only thing standing between a safe workplace and a catastrophe. Today, I reintroduced a bill to protect offshore oil and gas workers from retaliation when they report serious safety concerns. We must learn from past disasters like the Deepwater Horizon spill where employees did not report safety concerns for fear of losing their jobs.

I spoke with @lizabio about my ongoing efforts to ensure that the refineries in the Bay Area are safe both for workers and for the communities that surround them. I’ve been to too many funerals for refinery workers who died due to corporate negligence, and safe working conditions are non-negotiable.

Earlier this morning, I once again voted for a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s disastrous war of choice in Iran, which passed out of the House with the support of four Republicans. It’s time for ALL my Republican colleagues to put our country first and listen to the American people who want an immediate end to this war that has already cost us billions of taxpayer dollars and resulted in the deaths of 18 American servicemembers.

Today on the House Floor, I recognized the life of a remarkable public servant and community member, Sue Rainey, who passed away last month at the age of 86. In both Moraga and Walnut Creek, Sue served on the City Council and as mayor, helping to shape both communities, and her public service extended to more than a dozen local and regional boards and commissions. Sue will be remembered for her dedication to her family and to her community, and she will be missed.

I joined members of the California delegation in calling on the FCC to deny AT&T’s plan to discontinue landline service for about 200,000 Californian families and businesses who need reliable communication, including during emergencies when the cellular network can be weak or entirely unavailable. We’ve seen first-hand how quickly wildfires and other natural disasters can move through our area and it is critical that Californians are not left in the lurch.

After decimating Americans’ healthcare and raising the costs of everyday necessities in order to continue giving tax cuts to the super wealthy last year, Trump and Congressional Republicans are once again putting forth a government budget that spends your tax dollars to fund foreign wars and tax breaks for billionaires, all while growing the national debt. I’m a NO on the Republican budget that puts American families and working people last.

As I told town hall participants earlier this week, Americans will unnecessarily suffer and die because of the Republicans’ healthcare cuts and policy. I and many of my colleagues are ready to pass legislation to fundamentally reshape our healthcare system to work for the American people, but across the aisle, Republicans seem intent on making life harder for working Americans.

I voted NO on House Republicans’ attempt renege on our previous agreement to halt additional funding for ICE just days after its agents killed even more civilians in cold blood. Since the start of this Administration, Congressional Republicans have given $170 BILLION to ICE, which it has been using to terrorize our communities, unleash deadly violence, and neglect and abuse people in immigration detention. No more.
