Excited to announce that the RePEAT exhibition will be coming to @LullymorePark in May. This will be the first leg in our summer roadshow as we bring the exhibition around the country.
Many thanks to the @NLIreland for hosting and collaborating on the RePEAT exhibition. An excellent evening which also included a presentation on the NLI's substantial digitization work and a talk by EPA /NLI photographer-in-residence Paula T Nolan.
Many thks to the audience too!
You've probably heard about 'Nature-Based Solutions' in the past, but do you know what the term truly means? Nature (especially wetlands) is our biggest ally against #climatechange but protecting nature has benefits beyond the climate crisis.
For example, did you know that #mangroves protect 15 million people from floods across the world each year?
And that #peatlands are the largest terrestrial carbon sink on the planet?

There is one tiny advantage of not having a national committee - first timers can join for a 50% discount. Next invoices in June 2025. (Not available in Can, China, Est, Fin, Ger, Indon, Ire, Lit, Mal, NL, Swe, Ukr, UK & US - ask these National Committees for their conditions.)
Over the next two months, we invite groups to visit our project farms to see how raising the water table works on agricultural peat soils. In particular, we encourage farmers, advisors, and agricultural students to join us for a field trip.

Facts: 1) Permafrost is thawing with recent warming, worsened by fires and human land use. 2) Thawing ground releases greenhouse gases typically more than it stimulates plant growth. 3) Thaw can interfere with infrastructure, hunting, travel, and military operations.

In the EU, current emissions from organic soils (98 Mt CO2 eq.) correspond to 40% of the net removals of the LULUCFsector. Management of organic soils and peatland restoration provide CC mitigation potential. Our recent paper by @LukeFinland@UEFLawSchool https://t.co/yrhB7t60zA
Our peatlands restoration team recently visited Mayo to study hepatic mats, which must be protected when developing & implementing blanket bog restoration plans. These are unique bryophyte communities that, although prefer well-drained soils, can be found on blanket bogs too.
Nifty Sentinel-1 explorer by @Esri possibly revealing some rewetting/restoration activities carried out by @BordnaMona (between 2020 and 2024) on former industrial peat extraction sites in the Irish midlands.
