Additional resources are arriving to fight the Gann Fire in Calaveras County. FEMA has approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant to support state and local agencies with fire suppression efforts. I am grateful to the first responders across multiple agencies as well as the numerous community volunteers stepping in to help their neighbors.

Voted AYE this afternoon on HR 139 the Sunshine Protection Act. The bill ends the pointless time change that has plagued our country for more than a century, and makes Daylight Savings Time permanent.  I would much prefer to see us shift to Standard Time, which centers noon at the sun’s apex – thus avoiding driving to work or school in the dark during winter months.  Daylight Time was once tried and abandoned for this reason.  But whether Daylight or Standard Time, getting rid of the annoying “spring ahead fall back” nonsense is a good thing.

The gas tax was promised to be used to maintain and expand our roads.  Sacramento politicians have made a mockery of that promise - charging the highest gas tax in the nation while starving our highways.  The biggest price gouger in California IS California.
