It's a great novel. Many Chinese people consider it to be the most unforgettable book they've ever read.
It also contains a wealth of content related to Chinese culture (literature, mythology, folklore, etc.) and history. There are far fewer English resources available on this subject than there are in Chinese. If you're interested, @kmichaelwilson & his friend's podcast, @rereadingstone, are highly recommended. They do an excellent job of explaining these concepts.
@KassiaOset It is amazing. The beginning can be a little difficult but luckily I had @rereadingstone to delve into some of the cultural elements, as well as my bc of two to talk it over with.
