We respond to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and help people to survive, recover, and gain control of their future.

Every year, the IRC analyzes humanitarian need around the world and identifies the crises most likely to worsen in the coming year. This is our 2026 Emergency Watchlist: https://t.co/5IQtjwoGxt
This year, the US and several European nations have drastically rolled back their foreign aid budgets — at a time of tremendous humanitarian suffering. I spoke with @DMiliband, head of @RESCUEorg, about how his organization continues to work with those most desperately in need of aid:

"The painful truth is that unless we change course, we will all pay—through greater instability, greater common threats, greater disruption, and an international order too broken to respond when we need it most."

Today, @RESCUEorg releases its 2026 Emergency Watchlist, identifying the 20 countries most at risk of worsening humanitarian crises. The top countries on this year’s list offer stark examples of the devastating impact of what the IRC calls a “New World Disorder.”
We are appalled by the senseless act of violence that occurred near the White House. Our thoughts are with the victims.
There have been false reports that the suspect is an IRC staff member. We have confirmed that the suspect is not an employee of the IRC.
Today, the State Department terminated 10,000 State and USAID grants and other awards, effectively crippling American foreign assistance, including life-saving programs for which Secretary of State Rubio had granted waivers. Our statement ⤵️

Warring parties in Sudan must cease hostilities in order to avert further loss of life. As the people of South Sudan show extraordinary generosity, sharing what little they have, the international community must step up - more humanitarian funding is needed to save lives. ✊
Over 1 million people have fled the conflict in Sudan, seeking refuge in South Sudan—a staggering milestone in a deepening humanitarian crisis. Most arrive with almost nothing, straining already overstretched resources. #SouthSudan#SudanConflict https://t.co/AUQxc6K9KR
The IRC is on the ground, supporting refugees & returnees crossing the border through key hubs, but transit centres built for 4,800 are now hosting 16,000+. More help is urgently needed.
Violence against civilians is intensifying. The situation, worsening by the day, requires global support. The IRC calls for all parties to the conflict to cease hostilities and immediately allow for further scale up of assistance.
The humanitarian crisis in the DRC continues to escalate. Conflict, displacement, and limited access to essential services are affecting almost 3 million in the Eastern region. Many IRC teams in Goma are working from home, as bombs fall on the outskirts of the city.
OUR WARNING: Escalating violence in the DRC has pushed almost 3 million into displacement, nearly all of whom have limited access to basic necessities.

At the beginning of each new US Administration, @RESCUEorg re-affirms its core purpose. For more than 90 years, the IRC’s work has advanced the proud American tradition of aiding people fleeing persecution and conflict.

BREAKING: The IRC welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza after 465 days of conflict.
It is a critical chance to shield civilians from further harm, achieve the release of hostages, and scale up humanitarian aid.

We welcome the TPS extension for Sudan and other countries facing severe humanitarian emergencies and challenges. No one should be forced to return to unsafe and unstable situations. https://t.co/VXEeOjPi2s
