Last night Costa Mesa made history in ensuring that they support immigrant and tenant communities alike with the right to remain in our neighborhoods and communities. The city is now the second city in OC to support the due process rights of our communities in immigration court.
In OC, transfers to ICE increased by 1200% between 2022-2023.
The majority of those transferred by the OC Sheriff's Dept to ICE were born in Mexico or Vietnam, and from Central America.
Join us Mar 26 to address this and demand action from the Board of Supervisors and OCSD!
Last night @CityofCostaMesa passed an emergency tenant protection ordinance providing necessary support to tenants facing evictions. We applaud the tireless community efforts of Costa Mesa Unidos, Las Promotoras and residents who have been advocating for tenants the past 2 years
Take it from a landlord & real estate developer:
"Renter protections are homelessness prevention"
@AsmCottie@asmakilahweber@AsmMikeFong @AsmGrayson families are becoming homeless faster than we can house them. Vote yes on #SB567 to prevent homelessness! https://t.co/Zc972rXl6Z
If homelessness continues to increase at its current pace, by 2050 the CA homeless population will reach 500K+. That’s more than the population of cities like Oakland, Sacramento, or Fresno. We must pass #SB567@AsmCottie@asmakilahweber@AsmMikeFong @AsmGrayson!
📣@AsmGrayson @AsmCottie@asmakilahweber@AsmMikeFong If homelessness continues to increase in CA at its current pace, by 2050 the unhoused population will reach over 500,000 people. That’s more than the population of Oakland, Sacramento, or Fresno. We must pass #SB567!
The overwhelming majority of 1,000 Fresno voters across the political spectrum support tenant protections and rent control, but the city's mayor and council have taken few steps to protect renters. Vote YES on #SB567#HomelessnessPreventionAct
When @aliciaolivarez was 7 she and her mom lost their Fresno apartment and had to bounce from shelter to shelter. Fresno faced the HIGHEST rent growth of any city nationwide – 28% in 2021 https://t.co/ZpSurZ2K8O #SB567#HomelessnessPreventionAct
It is very sobering thought to think that by 2050 500,000 people could be experiencing homelessness. That is more than the population of our largest OC cities (Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Irvine) Lets pass #SB567#HomelessnessPreventionAct@AsmCottie@AsmValencia
If homelessness continues to increase in California at its current pace, by 2050 the homeless population will reach over 500,000 people. That’s more than the total number of people in Oakland, Sacramento, Fresno or Long Beach. Vote YES on #SB567#HomelessnessPreventionAct
It is our moral responsibility to ensure the well-being of our neighbors. That's why we mustn't turn a blind eye to the injustices happening in California. Tenant protections are homelessness prevention. And #SB567 is an opportunity to bring relief to those on the margins.
HOUSING WATCH - Corporate landlords continue to rip off tenants because it's profitable for them.
They are working to stop #HomelessnessPreventionAct#SB567 which would:
❌Stop unfair evictions.
Hold corporate landlords accountable!
The #HomelessnessPreventionAct#SB567 will:
✅ Close exploitable loopholes used to unfairly evict
✅ Provide enforcement tools that protect people from arbitrary evictions & displacement
✅ Protect families from homelessness
#KeepFamiliesHoused
#Fresno is Miracle Jackson’s home, where she was born and raised. But throughout adulthood, she hasn’t been able to experience secure housing for more than 2 years at a time. Fresno experienced the highest rate of rent increase in the country during the pandemic — as high as 40%.
Families like Antonio Avila Garcia's paid rent every month for 10 years, but a loophole allows landlords to kick tenants out. We support the #HomelessnessPreventionAct to stop corporate landlords from using reno-victions #SB567
https://t.co/nKXJauV8bR
Alvila Garcia's family had to move after the property manager would only rent an apartment for $500+ MORE per month. We need to pass #SB567#HomelessnessPreventionAct now to:
⚖️ Protect tenants' rights
❌ Stop unjust evictions
🥊 Keep familes housed and off the streets
