Martyrdom of Four Kashmiri Youths - Sardar Faizan Saghir, Sardar Ishtiaq, Sardar Waqas and Sardar Asim - by Landmines on the Ceasefire Line, Poonch Sector, is Worst State Terrorism and a Grave Violation of International Humanitarian Law: Chief Spokesperson Shakeel Jarral

Central Spokesperson of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, Shakeel Jarral, has expressed profound grief and outrage over the tragic martyrdom of four innocent, unarmed Kashmiri youths in a landmine explosion laid by occupation forces on the Ceasefire Line in Poonch Sector. He termed it an act of organised state terrorism and a heinous crime against humanity.

According to local residents and the families of the martyrs, the youths were deliberately targeted by the occupation forces at a water spring and killed in a planned explosion. This is an act of the worst barbarism and state terrorism that must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Shakeel Jarral stated that Jammu Kashmir is an indivisible, historical and political entity that has been forcibly divided since 1947 by two occupying powers. They drew a bloody line in the name of the Ceasefire Line and divided our motherland into two parts. This is not an international border, but a line of coercion and oppression drawn over our bodies. For the last 78 years, the Kashmiri people living on both sides of this bloody line have been paying the price of this forced division and military occupation with their blood.

He said occupation forces have planted hundreds of thousands of deadly landmines on both sides of the Ceasefire Line. These mines are not a military strategy; they are a weapon of war to terrorise the Kashmiri people, to restrict their movement, and to destroy their livelihoods and economy.

The JKLF Spokesperson strongly condemned the malicious campaign by sections of the Indian media attempting to brand the martyrdom of these innocent civilians as an "infiltration attempt". He said this pack of lies, deceit and inhuman propaganda is condemnable. Killing innocent civilians and then branding them as terrorists and infiltrators is the standard operating procedure of the occupation forces.

He added that Sardar Faizan Saghir had been at the forefront of a peaceful campaign against these killer, inhuman IEDs and landmines laid on the Ceasefire Line, raising his voice for the thousands of people whose lives have been made miserable by them. The occupation forces targeted him to silence his voice.

The Spokesperson further stated that the indiscriminate use of landmines and IEDs in the divided State of Jammu Kashmir is a flagrant violation of international law.

These inhuman weapons are in open violation of *Article 3 and Article 27 of the Fourth Geneva Convention*, which guarantees the protection of civilian populations in occupied territories. It is also a blatant violation of the *Ottawa Treaty 1997 (Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention)* which prohibits the use of landmines in civilian-populated areas. Under international humanitarian law, targeting unarmed civilians with landmines constitutes a *War Crime.*

The occupation forces have made the life of the people living on the Ceasefire Line a living hell. Their agricultural lands have become barren and unusable, their livestock are killed by these mines on a daily basis, their children are martyred or permanently disabled while playing, and the shadow of death looms over their pastures and water springs. These are not accidents. This is a deliberate and calculated policy of the occupiers to displace Kashmiris from their own ancestral land and force them to live in perpetual fear.

On this occasion, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front puts forward its clear and unequivocal demands:

The bloodthirsty Indian state has once again conducted a cowardly attack, leaving four young men martyred in a landmine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Mahindala Madarpur, a village in Hajira tehsil of Poonch district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Stop being a stooge of India. If you are a journalist, do your duty properly and investigate the matter. Faizan was a resident of the ceasefire line area in Mandla. He was doing his routine work when he was killed. Stop spreading lies.
Faizan Sagheer was part of the JKLF AJK-GB chapter. He was the Senior Vice President of JKLF Poonch district and also a member of JAAC Madarpur. He was a rights activist who always stood in the front rows when it came to people’s rights.
The Indian narrative is trying to criminalise ordinary Kashmiri activists from the ceasefire line. How many more will be labelled after death?
