A multidisciplinary respiratory science core at the University of Cyprus housing labs from the schools of Medicine, Engineering and Pure & Applied Sciences
Our latest work on 🫁 drug delivery is now published as open access in Nature Scientific Reports: A 3D computational model of the airway surface liquid (ASL) that resolves cilia motion and viscoelastic mucus to track dissolution and transport of small‑molecule drugs. The work also introduces a Ciliary Attachment Ratio (CAR) to probe how much dose binds to cilia vs reaches the epithelium More details at https://t.co/VPgJH50xh4
CDA Mangis: Pleased to join the Stanford Alumni Association Cyprus (SAAC) dinner. Thanks to cofounders Suzi Abdel-Malak & Effie Kokkinou. SAAC promotes networking among Stanford alumni in Cyprus, strengthening the 🇺🇸🇨🇾 connection to the Stanford University family.
A first of its kind, super timely workshop is happening next week at Lorentz Center in Leiden @lorentzcenter on the formation of respiratory aerosols. My own interest lies in the very difficult task of modeling the formation of aerosols when mucus plugs form & break during the collapse & reopening of small airways. https://t.co/DZSYrAeI3v
Starting today we initiate a series of science podcasts 🎧 on X showcasing some of the most exciting research output of @UCompsci@respihub & collaborators. Thanks to Google for making this possible. These podcasts are themselves a testimony of the real value of AI 🚀🚀
🫁🌊 Collaborating with Josué Sznitman on this Annual Review was fun & rewarding. It is finally live in early release @AnnualReviews : Multiscale Modeling of Respiratory Transport Phenomena and Intersubject Variability | Annual Reviews - https://t.co/EA2CDdLfbS
@RinatShay In the lab we saw a trend of improving speedup ratio as we went from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 nodes, I’m suspecting it has to do with more efficient use of lazy evaluation in each node. To be fair we should average performance over many more tries for each setup & compare averages
Meet MohammadHadi, our ONISILOS #MSCA fellow of the week!

Interested in joining @respihub to work with us on new AI-assisted methods for assessing ventilation distribution in the developing 🫁? Read the application guide & submit under the Scientific Area “Respiratory System: basic to translational biomedical science & engineering ” 👇
Happy that our proposal to the @lorentzcenter for a workshop on the generation of bioaerosols in the 🫁 has been shortlisted. We’ll be busy working on the full proposal to address a significant gap in knowledge important in novel disease detection & in preparing for pandemics
The Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, in cooperation with Nireas- International Water Research Center of @UCYOfficial are announcing the invited talk by Professor Thomas Bewley of the University of California San Diego @UCSanDiego
LOCATION: @UCYLibrary 👇🏻
📣 Last chance to apply for a grant up to €1,000 to support your lung health awareness activities! 🫁
Applications close TOMORROW (31 July).

A proof-of-concept study on the effect of MPs on the efficiency of UV disinfection. MP-associated bacteria exhibited slower UV inactivation than free bacteria. However, overlooking UV transmittance leads to overestimation of the MPs effect https://t.co/7sWIN1PyXR @WaterRes_J
Indoor laundry machines & dryers, especially in apartment settings w/o properly installed ventilation & the prevalence of detergents w/ extremely strong scents constitute a hazard for people with chronic 🫁 symptoms. Why strong scents when active ingredients are mostly odorless?
Happy the the 2nd part in this series has just been published. iBCS. 2: Mechanistic Modeling of Pulmonary Availability of Inhaled Drugs versus Critical Product Attributes https://t.co/ZizmrM1sXF
I have learned so much from my co-authors through the long Zoom discussions that led to this and the following parts. A humbling and inspiring experience. iBCS: 1. Principles and Framework of an Inhalation-Based Biopharmaceutics Classification System https://t.co/yva2VYta5x
Are you interested in joining the cross-disciplinary team of RespiHub to develop whole-lung 🫁 in-silico models? If the answer is “yes! 🤩” follow the link to learn about new fellowships https://t.co/lrAgf8WIAr
For COPD patients, the risk of death from covid-19 is about 17 times higher than that of healthy people. There are millions of people who suffer from COPD. From the talk of Prof. Christine Jenkins in “Transforming respiratory care” session this afternoon in #ERSCongress 2021.
