When you listen to Nas, you will be awed by the level of brilliance and exposure he has. OG rappers had so much intelligence and historical knowledge. Rap fell off, man. That’s why I don’t even go about picking a side with the Big 3. We should be lucky that we’ve got them right here saving hip-hop.

Simplicity and clarity are personal principles for me, and I pursue them almost ruthlessly.
I’ve always thought that people complicate things because clarity is difficult. It requires you to confront your emotions and, I dare say, demands some level of integrity and honour. When things are more complex than they need to be, you can hide behind multiple interpretations without holding on to any true meaning. A bloody waste of my time.
I wouldn’t say 20 things if 3 could capture the 20. I don’t waste words. I don’t waste things. I don’t leave things untidy. I don’t hide behind ambiguity to create safe passages for myself. I’m comfortable with some discomfort, and also, with being wrong.
Oddly enough, like most principles when explained, this sounds much sweeter than it is in practice. I’ve been called an asshole and impatient for making people understand that when they speak to me, they should go straight to the point. I’ve been called a bore, nonchalant, detached and snobbish for not adding dramatic effect to my words to optimise or accentuate emotional reactions.
Usually, and especially with people I have no intimacy with, when I tell people something, I leave it at that. What matters to me is that I told them what needed to be told. That I did what needed to be done. And nothing more.
People are drawn to the outcome of simplicity, but they don’t really appreciate the process. The process isn’t exactly designed to be emotionally stimulating or exciting. It just is.
Chess has all the attributes of an ancient curse: too deep for mere relaxation, too difficult to master, too unrewarding to guarantee good living, and too beautiful to quit.
