Los venezolanos, mejor que nadie, sabemos que Argentina es una gran patria y un gran pueblo. Una nación que nos abrió las puertas cuando más lo necesitábamos, que nos acogió con dignidad, que nos dio oportunidades y que nos trató como hermanos.

Una nación que, ante la tragedia del terremoto, envió militares, brigadistas, médicos, K9 y voluntarios, incluso después de haber tenido a un gendarme secuestrado 448 días por la dictadura chavista. Eso habla de valores, de humanidad.

Por eso, frente a quienes hoy intentan sembrar odio, yo elijo decir lo que sentimos millones de venezolanos: gracias, Argentina. Gracias por su solidaridad, por su corazón y por su hermandad.

Estaremos eternamente agradecidos.

Al pueblo venezolano y a los pueblos del mundo en el día de la Libertad de Venezuela

Hoy, los venezolanos conmemoramos 215 años de nuestra Declaración de Independencia. Celebramos el nacimiento civil de la República, el día en que nuestros libertadores decidieron de manera irrevocable que esta tierra sería libre, soberana e independiente para siempre.

Ayer, el pueblo de los Estados Unidos conmemoró 250 años de la Declaración de su Independencia. Apenas unas horas separan la celebración de ambas naciones, lo que es un hilo conductor, que une el destino de nuestros pueblos en la misma concepción republicana y en la defensa de Occidente.

Hace dos siglos y medio, los Estados Unidos encendió una antorcha basada en la verdad eterna de que los derechos humanos vienen del Creador y que el poder solo es legítimo si emana del consentimiento de los gobernados. Pocas décadas después, nuestros propios libertadores recorrieron este continente con una epopeya civil y militar sin precedentes. Traspasaron nuestras fronteras, cruzaron Los Andes y contribuyeron a fundar otras naciones libres. Lo que sería Venezuela perdió casi un tercio de su población en la búsqueda de su propia Libertad y la de las naciones del continente.

Hoy, con la autoridad moral que nos da el sacrificio de millones de venezolanos de antes y de ahora, hablo con absoluta claridad y determinación al mundo libre.

A nuestros aliados en todos los países, a quienes reconocemos como defensores históricos de la democracia, hoy les decimos: América toda y Occidente no pueden permitirse vacilaciones. El pueblo venezolano ha cumplido con cada etapa de esta gesta; hemos construido una legitimidad indestructible desde la base, hemos derrotado con verdades la mentira de la tiranía y hemos movilizado en paz a todo un país, que hoy está indignado y urgido.

Una alianza duradera se sostiene en la verdad y en la confianza. Es el momento de avanzar con determinación y ejecutar con firmeza inequívoca la etapa definitiva de nuestra estrategia común.

La verdadera hermandad americana emana de la legitimidad mutua, del respeto entre repúblicas soberanas que comparten el mismo fuego sagrado de la Libertad, de la separación de poderes y de la justicia. La acción ciudadana ante los terremotos del 24 de junio certifica que el coraje y la dignidad de nuestro pueblo están conquistando ese futuro.

En estas horas de dolor infinito, los venezolanos mantenemos las convicciones intactas. Hemos decidido ser libres y prósperos, y esa es una decisión irreversible. Como lo hizo Bolívar en cada campo de batalla, con la misma fuerza que los Padres Fundadores de los Estados Unidos, los venezolanos hoy seguiremos hasta el final.

Que la fuerza espiritual de nuestros libertadores guíe nuestros pasos, que el coraje civil nos sostenga y que Dios bendiga la causa de la Libertad en Venezuela y en la América toda.  

Abrazo a los venezolanos adentro y afuera; abrazo a cada familia víctima de la tragedia que nuestro país acaba de sufrir; abrazo a quienes nos han auxiliado y consolado, abrazo a los ciudadanos del mundo que luchan por la Libertad.

As a Venezuelan-American who’s registered with the Democratic Party. I’m appalled to see how the progressive and socialist wing of the party has maintained complete silence regarding the humanitarian crisis that Venezuela is currently living.

Back in January, way too many progressive and DSA figures threw themselves to the media, day and night, to condemn the US intervention to arrest Maduro. Most of the time, the reasoning behind the condemnation was that the intervention was putting Venezuelan civilians “at risk”.

However, I have yet to see a similar level of reaction by the same people about the significant and verified amount of innocent Venezuelan lives lost due to the incompetence and corruption by the chavista dictatorship in their earthquake response.

I have not seen a mass condemnation of the complete abandonment that the Delcy Rodriguez government has subjected Venezuelan earthquake victims that are in need of rescue. Progressives and socialists love to talk about how US intervention puts lives at risk. Yet when it’s a socialist government who’s taking lives because of their corruption, then socialists and progressives will not utter a single word.

What socialists and progressives have in prose and flamboyance they lack in character and accountability.

Our @SamaritansPurse Emergency Field Hospital, equipped with two operating rooms, 56 patient beds, a critical care unit, pharmacy, and laboratory is up and running in La Guaira, Venezuela, where two major earthquakes left catastrophic damage. More than 1,700 people have died and thousands of families have been displaced. Many are in desperate need of medical care and today we were able to begin seeing patients. My name is Jesus Daniel Romero. I am an American by birth, born to a Venezuelan father and an American mother. I proudly served the United States for more than 22 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Naval Intelligence Officer. I later served an additional 15 years as an Intelligence Operations Specialist with the Department of the Army, retiring from federal service in 2022. Throughout my career, I also served our nation overseas in several Latin American countries in diplomatic assignments supporting the Department of Defense and advancing United States national security interests and foreign policy objectives.

The values of the United States—freedom, justice, human dignity, and the rule of law—are not simply ideals to me. They are principles I have defended throughout my military and civilian service.

Like many others, I listened carefully to your recent interview. I must tell you that I was deeply disappointed by your comments. They stand in stark contrast to the values that I have spent my life serving and defending.

A relationship with any government should never come at the expense of moral clarity, particularly when dealing with a regime that has been widely criticized for its human rights record. At a time when the Venezuelan people are suffering the consequences of a devastating natural disaster, your remarks were perceived by many as unnecessarily sympathetic toward those in power rather than toward the victims.

Whether intended or not, words matter. Public statements by an American ambassador carry tremendous weight, especially during moments of crisis. History often remembers not only the decisions public officials make, but also the words they choose when people are looking for leadership, compassion, and moral clarity.

I have been unable to find anyone who publicly supports or agrees with your comments. On the contrary, the overwhelming public reaction has been one of disappointment, disbelief, and concern. That alone should give pause and invite reflection.

I respectfully ask you to consider the impact your words have had on countless Venezuelans, including many who have long looked to the United States as a beacon of freedom, justice, and hope. During a moment of profound human suffering, many expected empathy and moral clarity from the representative of the United States. Unfortunately, your remarks conveyed something very different.

As someone who has devoted nearly four decades to serving this nation in uniform, in intelligence, and in diplomatic assignments abroad, I felt compelled to express my profound disappointment. Public service is ultimately measured not only by the offices we hold, but by the principles we uphold when they are tested the most.
