It’s substantially smaller, lighter, and more reliable than the average 1911 but has double the capacity.

A 1911 or Glock 17 is about the thickest, tallest, and longest pistol that’s practical for concealed carry.

Both of these show good penetration and expansion, so the deciding factor is capacity, where an apples-to-apples comparison (standard profile handguns) has the 9mm at *double* the capacity of a .45.

IMO 5.7 just leaves the most real world utility on the table in exchange for questionable benefits when compared to 9mm, .45, and 10mm.

Assuming full size, flush mags- 8/9 to 18 is a big jump- doubling capacity. 18 to 20 is not.

Though, 5.7 causes an overly long LOP so I guess a fat grip to a long grip is a fine comparison. If it runs OK, I’d take the Para over the 5.7, probably not over a Glock 19 tho.

The second is for it to penetrate too much, putting bystanders at risk and failing to deliver all the energy into the target. You also don’t want the round to penetrate perfectly but fail to expand.

There are a few really bad things you don’t want to happen. The first is for a round to penetrate too little

For example, Speer Gold Dot or Federal HST (the gold standard for 9mm defense ammo) is pretty much ideal on the FBI tests when balancing capacity and terminal ballistics. 5.7 tends to overpenetrate due to its small size and because it’s fast.
