@The_Top_Loader It makes the game very difficult however your shotgun has the long distance accuracy of a sniper rifle so it's an interesting trade-off.
@16bitnostalgia Absolutely. My preference these days is playing with an everdrive or game genie so I can have unlimited fuel. Fuel consumption just causes my unnecessary stress though I'm sure many will enjoy the extra tension! Accidentally destroying the fuel drums is the worst.
@PlayStalgiaX I've still not played this. Not even sure if it was released in the UK. I think I'd like it though. Kind of reminds me of Paperboy, avoiding all the obstacles and that's one of my favourite arcade games.
62 kilobytes of pure perfection! 40 years ago, Ace of Aces was released. It's probably a bit too old for some of the people who follow my account but it was certainly way ahead of its time back in 1986.
We used to turn up the volume for this one, especially for the intro and cutscene when the black and white picture slide show started, with the overlapping sound effects at the 0:30 mark (wait for it, it's worth it!) - it still fascinates me to this day. That cutscene uses a total of six colours and it still looks absolutely incredible.
Superb graphics, excellent sound effects and a story/gameplay that felt highly immersive - those are the things that I remember when first playing this as a kid. Not an easy game by any means but it got you hooked fast.
I am not enough of a history buff to know whether the missions were somewhat realistic but I would like to believe so. The mission briefings and the "interactive" map during the game added to that feeling of authenticity.
@FitnessFirst_UK Hi. I sent a message over 2 weeks ago regarding my membership cancellation and I'm yet to receive a response. However I am getting auto messages about being charged for cancellation. I'd like to speak with someone about this.
American Truck for MSX (by Telenet Japan/1985) was a significant early hit for the company.
With the similar high speed scrolling of Road Fighter but you can ram and destroy other cars, and features toll roads and bifurcations. Destroying ambulances and school buses will reduce your score.
It's for MSX1 but was also available on the Sharp X1, PC-98 and PC-88 computers, with the PC-88 identified as its first platform.
