@ServiceOntario I just retired my red & white Health Card 🥲 Booked an appointment online and everything went perfectly - in and out in 6 minutes. Thank you for the great service!
Shout out to @macpowerusers for being one of the (unfortunately) few places where the iWork team gets their due. Check out some past episodes to hear how this tool chain can do a lot more than you might think. And it’s all all free.
@Apple and their #iWork team just released almost everything I’ve been hoping for related to collaborative presentations! @AppleSupport I’m guessing that the issues I mentioned yesterday were part of the transition to the new sharing model - today is much more stable.
The biggest downside is that it’s hard not to make that one. last. tweak. No matter where you are. If you’re on an Apple platform - or if you don’t mind using one of the best document editing web interfaces out there - you really should try iWork in the Cloud.
@AppleSupport A number of my teaching colleagues and I are finding that #iWork for #iCloud is failing to allow collaboration though a shared iCloud Folder. It’s nondeterministic and problematic. Neither System Status nor Twitter show anything. Thoughts? We love this feature but…
#Apple#iWork#Keynote on macOS 11.6 + #Keynote Remote (through Keynote) on #iPadOS 15 + attempting to link devices = full crash of iPadOS Keynote. Keep an iPadOS 14.8 device around for the time being if you need remote control or annotations.
Allocating 6 cores and 16GB of RAM to VMWare Fusion - and then spelunking around in RegEdit to convince @SOLIDWORKS to use hardware OpenGL - seems to result in more reasonable performance. Props to https://t.co/bFA9GW3xIb and @VMware but a student-friendly process this is not.
Installing BootCamp and Windows 10 on my iMac Pro. For the sole purpose of running SolidWorks at a reasonable speed. Starting my 12th reboot. The mouse scroll direction and scroll bar click behaviour continue to vex me. The things we do for our students …
Acknowledging the amazing women engineer colleagues (many of whom are at the CEEA Annual Conference this week) who I have been privileged to work with over the years. Too many to list and many are not on Twitter, but all have influenced both me and my students #inwed21#CEEA2021
@zhuowei For those of us who have been trying to find out if https://t.co/YpvH6dYNvZ has any super secret preference keys, is there any chance that you would be willing to share your technique(s)? My lldb skills were unfortunately not up to the task.
@mikeroySoft If we’re lucky maybe at WWDC they’ll announce that Hypervisor.Framework will support the counters. Or rr (or someone similar) will support software timers. Student code for learning doesn’t need to be that performant and the pedagogical value might be high.
So let’s say you’re planning / designing the tech stack for teaching introductory (C or C++) programming. What are some of the requirements, and what are the odds of meeting them. Spoiler Alert: For some useful requirements the odds seem pretty low.
@mikeroySoft Thanks for the response and information. The challenge is the heterogeneity of the Student { hardware, software, knowledge }. I’m on an iMac Pro with Bug Sur. Students are on almost everything, and I shudder at explaining “disable Hyper-V”. Might still be worth it 🤔
So now we have a conundrum. Do we give up on Objectives ( ①, ②, and ④ ) or do we give up on the “record and replay” aspect of ③? Or do we keep digging and hope that there is another path or solution available that we haven’t figured out yet. Decisions, decisions.
“Virtualized Performance Monitoring Counters(vPMC) are not supported by VMware Fusion on macOS Big Sur or VMware Workstation with Hyper-V” which seems to mean “rr will not run inside a VM whether hosted on macOS or Windows”
