The NYA is pleased to have been involved in the design and evaluation of a two-year Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce (APST) commissioned by @educationgovuk, through our role on the Steering and Advisory Board for the programme.
The final report by @YouthEndowFund highlights the value of youth workers as part of specialist teams in supporting pupils at risk of exploitation and violence with attendance, safeguarding and building their confidence and engagement with positive activities.
Through an evaluation of 20 APST teams from 2021-3 the report highlights the benefit of a trauma-informed approach to supporting and safeguarding highly vulnerable young people, providing support for unmet mental health needs and ‘preparing the ground’ for another specialist to provide support.

NYA advocated tirelessly for access to Erasmus+ through our seat at the table on the UK/EU negotiations with UK Young Ambassador @CuttinMaurizio representing BYC, spearheading the push in NYA’s space on the group.

Important principles and initiative set out below by @_YJB on the inaugural Child First Day.
A #ChildFirst approach means putting children and young people at the heart of what the youth justice system does. The guiding principle is one that should steer intervention with all children, to recognise the potential they each bring.
📢Today we’re celebrating our inaugural Child First Day, a day of activity dedicated to spreading awareness of and advocating for the Child First framework, and the evidence that underpins it.📚
We’ll be sharing #ChildFirst resources, so please help us amplify these messages through your networks, using #ChildFirst.
Have you read our Guide to #ChildFirst?📚
It's aimed at those working with children in the youth justice system to support embedding Child First into all aspects of their role.
