A public records request for the Braga Bridge lights (Fall River, Massachusetts) contract reveals some crazy expense estimates in the $16.8 million contract that was approved by MassDOT.
For example, the Bid Tabulation sheet reveals "400 day-time traffic cones for traffic management" were estimated by the state to cost $25 each or $10,000 total but the contractor bid $3,500 each or $1.4 million. An online search shows traffic cones cost about $25 and there are discounts for bulk orders.
In a communication, MassDOT questioned the high cost of the cones and other expenses. The contractor appears to have lumped in labor of a three-man crew into the cost. The contractor responded with: "Traffic Cones for Traffic Management - a three man crew for the setup and removal of traffic management costs in excess of $3,000 per nightly shift." There was no response by the MassDOT and the cost was approved.
@MassGovernor Massachusetts' citizens deserve to not have to pay for unlawful residents — $3 billion annually is the fiscal burden for unauthorized immigration.
