Again, all self-authentication. It most certainly is in the Bible. Christ gave all of His authority over to the Church in Ephesians 1. He also said that if anyone doesn't listen to the Church then treat him as a heathen. If you're the Church because you say so, then everyone has to listen to you according to Scripture, and that's a very dangerous claim to make. The Church is all over Scripture. It was written for the Church. Just because there's endless schisms nowadays and people claiming the Church isn't important anymore, that doesn't mean that the original Church ceased to continue being the Church. You might be right about Christ having mercy on you if you're following Him, but believing Him means believing all of His words, including the ones that say to listen to the Church.
Well I agree with what you said about Him being the Church, but you don't get to just claim to be in Him because you say so. In Scripture, that Church was visible and had established authority handed down from the apostles. So unless you are in the visible Church, you aren't in Him. Maybe He's working with you where you are at, but that's not the same thing as being in the Body of Christ. I would see you as a lost sheep that needs to come home. Hence, my online name.
@joshwhitlatch Not defending Rome as I am Orthodox, but "simplicity" means "singleness", not simple and easy. Christ is one body. That is what Paul is warning people about.
Pope Gregory the Great said the see of Peter is one but in three places: Rome, Antioch, and Alexandria.
And I just made this connection myself, but it matches the Trinity. Rome had no right to say "screw you" to the other Patriarchs. They are to blame and their conduct after the schism shows it.
@Markbhere2@ChristianWifeMo The annointing is the sacrament of chrismation, also known as the seal of the Holy Spirit. It's when you are annointed with holy chrism (oil) and then the Holy Spirit is sealed within you. He didn't just call the Holy Spirit "the annointing" cuz it sounded cool lol.
It's clear according to who? You? That's self-authentication. That's all I'm saying. Maybe you're right! Maybe God is working in your life. But the full experience of Him is in His Church. That's what Ephesians 1:22-23 tells us. And you definitely do not have the right to claim to be the Church on your own.
@ChristianWifeMo Yes!! Absolutely. But true love also doesn't let someone just walk into the second death without at least a warning. When I talk about Orthodoxy in an exclusive sort of way, I am only doing it in love for you all. At least, I hope that's my heart!
I think that someone who is truly seeking God on His terms will be revealed the truth eventually. It starts by dying to yourself and realizing that you cannot figure it out on your own. Then, it comes to the question of what is the Church that Jesus started? Where is that church today? You go through the history, you pray a lot, and He will reveal Himself to you. But it might take years until you are fully ready to handle the truth. I balled my eyes out a few months ago when I realized the state of disunity among all the churches and how so many people are deceived by false churches. That is why I am making it my goal to return as many people as possible back to the Body of Christ.
So do you have to find the right church in this life to he saved? Technically no because God looks at each heart. But is there is normal intended path to salvation? Yes, and it is the visible Body of Christ.
I'll pray for you on your journey, man. Hope to see ya on the other side and give a big hug one day 😁
Then why does every self-denom all believe unique things about the law and nobody is in unity? Those verses are true, but within the visible Body of Christ. The idea that those verses eliminate the Church is ludicrious, especially given how history played out in the early Church. It also implies you don't need Scripture. Everything you need to know is written on your heart, right?
