@TaliaRinger A thing it likely significantly improves is form and style -- I'd think the consistent "writing style" it expresses is learned from (really, built in consensus with) human raters.

@TaliaRinger "truthfulness" is not in the hypothesis space of any of these models so I don't think it could ever meaningfully learn something like it. What it actually learns is heavily dependent on the human feedback so impossible to really say in general.
