Do small holder farmers understand benefitsof carbonfarming? How can they benefit from #carboncredits? What are the CSA practices already in place?Well, today @Agriterra@Rabobank we engaged Farmers, producer orgzns&climate experts in a #CarbonFarmingRoundtable 2 share experiences
This chart is part of a recent paper comparing the cradle-to-cradle carbon footprint 👣 of brewed coffee from different origins. Brazil has the largest footprint, due to the high use of chemical fertilizers. #coffee#sustainability#ClimateAction#carbonfootprint
We can do a better job with your help. Every year, we launch a short survey because we know you have a lot to share that can help us to be a better coffee importer. Take the 2-minute survey here: https://t.co/G42cmFc4HB

🏭 Nespresso wants to be carbon neutral by 2022, Illycafe wants to do the same by 2033 and Starbucks wants to see a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2033. Why are specialty coffee brands falling behind when it comes to climate action? #coffee#ClimateCrisis
A billion years ago, early plants harnessed the power of the sun to turn CO2 + H20 into O2 and organic matter and turned a barren Earth into a planet hospitable to animal life. Did you know that 1ha of #coffee#forest in Ethiopia can capture hundreds of tons of CO2 today?
Here is my call to the #coffee sector: “Let’s not claim that we pay a better price to the producers without providing proof”. Thanks to the #LivingWageLab, @Fairfood, @hivosNL and especially to Isa Miralles and Nada Van Schouwenburg for inviting me. https://t.co/iZHRb2EiZ3
For most of its 4.5B-year life, #earth was very inhospitable to animal life: the early atmosphere consisted of #CO2, water vapor, ammonia and methane - but no oxygen. Only 1B years ago, algae started turning H2O and CO2 into O2 and made earth's #climate hospitable to animal life.
The weight of coffee production presses heavily on the climate. And global coffee prices do not cover a living income for many of the 25-million coffee smallholders. We need to rethink coffee. Read how we can make baby-steps towards a new coffee economy: https://t.co/gvmBu7X3VB
“Coffee is an organic product. It doesn’t stay static it’s a living thing.” Says Rosetta’s Head Roaster Jono. At @rosettaroastery, no roasting curve is holy. Read the whole story here: https://t.co/KqfwzXi7lQ

@RushigajeJaffar@RushigajeJaffar technically, absolutely. Our main learning was that we need much more research about household expenses and cost of production to put numbers in context.
For years, the price small-scale farmers for their #coffee has been too low to cover household expenses or even cost of production. We reveal a fully transparent Ethiopian supply-chain, allowing roasters to check exactly what their farmers were paid. https://t.co/PYRJiUvYcM
"A living income is a human right, but one that often remains out of sight in long, opaque supply-chains. Specialty coffee roasters tend to believe that because we pay a premium for higher-quality coffee on our end, the farmer earns more. Is that true? https://t.co/ZAFxf7TzSa
Last September I published my essay 'The Future of Poverty-Free Coffee' (https://t.co/oerV9eB0p2). Were our Ethiopian small-scale farmers able to earn a #livingincome for their families? Hear the results this Friday at 12:15 in the Transformatorhuis at Amsterdam Coffee Festival!
At the @FAIRTRADE Living Income Forum I spoke about a living income for #coffee farmers. My call to action: No more vague claims about #impact. No promises of a better price without proof. Instead, only provide verifiable numbers about farmers' ability to earn a Living Income.
And I leave this here, also from the report... evolution of global market shares in consumption: exporting countries from 22% to 31%. #coffee#domestic#consumption
Dutch consumers are drinking less #coffee, but spend 20% more on it. That must surely benefit our entire industry? Channa Brunt wrote an insightful article for @onewm in which she asked me why coffee farmers are still unable to earn a living income. https://t.co/KSRxRgDbzc
