Where does “merit” fit in the liberal narrative?

I used to think my faith/theology was a puzzle missing a few pieces. But now, I've come to think that my faith is a few random pieces missing an actual puzzle.

My answers have become questions, and my questions, my only answers.

Before the Christian story can be one of triumph (IF it ever is that) —

It must first be one of powerlessness, vulnerability, and injustice.

And unless we can let go of our own fascination with imperial privilege, our messiah may never rise.

Before we can get to Sunday —

We must first acknowledge the reality of JESUS’ DEATH at the hands of an absolute empire.

Feel the indignation towards the PREVALENCE OF INSTITUTIONAL OPPRESSION, asking ourselves how we might be perpetuating the same forces that killed our Rabbi.
