Glad to welcome two more churches to the community of Missio Mosaic: A Missional Society: Middleton Congregational Church and Shipyard Church in Boston, MA! Looking forward to doing Gospel ministry with you all!
@hoopersnook@DrSampler No disrespect intended. Just showing you how I am interpreting some of these things from what I have been reading. Appreciate the conversation on it.
@hoopersnook@DrSampler It very well could be. Speaking of being in context, the French Catholics held power for centuries so it would not surprise me if there was some satirizing of continuing to overthrow that base of power. We may never ultimately know.
@hoopersnook@DrSampler I am not necessarily offended. I didn’t loose sleep over it. I am just honestly wondering what context they are basing their meaning in to communicate to a world-wide audience the intended meaning. They are alluding to something but I think it didn’t communicate well.
@hoopersnook@DrSampler The person in the middle is even wearing blue as Jesus is depicted in DaVinci’s painting. Are there images that show this painting more towards images and scenes of Bacchus? That would help to know.
@hoopersnook@DrSampler I think I am asking for art or images that would point more towards references to Bacchus than the Last Supper. Seems like they are trying to appropriate several images into one (a metamodern way of doing art) to send a message.
@hoopersnook@DrSampler I think this is an issue of sign, signifier, and signified. The only illusion to Dionysius (Bacchus) that I see is the blue man holding a wine goblet. And even then he was not in the entire scene. For most of the scene it seems as though there is an illusion to the Last supper.
@barukalas I don’t think it’s full communion.Rome doesn’t even have full communion with the conservative Polish National Catholic Church. Women’s ordination is also a deal breaker. Would be very surprised if it is indeed full communion.
A better idea than just the 10 Commandments in school classrooms would be the Beattitudes and Sermon on the Mount in classrooms. They teach justice, how to get along with your neighbor, and get at the real heart of Jesus’ teachings and the 10 Commandments.
Pentecost reminds us that a church’s focus shouldn’t be on trying to guess the timing of Jesus’ return or which political party is best. Rather, it reminds us to ask if our churches are reflecting the community to come (as it is in heaven) right here and now (on earth)?
@TomBuck There are a lot of emotions we feel that are not “biblical.” That does not mean they are any less real. I think your point should be not necessarily to find the emotion in scripture, but to find the relief for that emotion in scripture, resting in God’s grace.
2 Corinthians 2:17: “We are not like so many others, who handle God's message as if it were cheap merchandise; but because God has sent us, we speak with sincerity in his presence, as servants of Christ.”

God be in my head
And in my understanding.
God be in my mine eyes
And in my looking.
God be in my mouth
And in my speaking.
God be in my heart
And in my thinking,
God be at mine end
And at my departing.
Amen.

We have nothing in this world to fear because we have been brought into God’s family through adoption as if we were part of His natural family! Romans 8:15: For we have not received a spirit of fear or timidity, but rather adoption, for we cry out “Abba Father!”
