HOLY CRAP! A storm in South Dakota is producing winds up to 131 miles per hour. That is nearly the equivalent of an EF3 tornado (136mph) That is absolutely ridiculous.

This also includes lemon sized hail, which will produce devastating property and crop damage at wind speeds like this. If you know anyone in the path of this, tell them to stay weather aware. The storm is just southwest of Aberdeen, South Dakota.

This is neat! We have a wave of Saharan dust incoming over the next 24-48 hours. This dust is typically harmless but it can give us some pretty vivid sunsets! Keep an eye on the sky Tuesday evening as this is when the dust will be thickest in the atmosphere!

One derecho has already been confirmed for Michigan this year (June 10th) which was our first confirmed in several years. As we head into yet another stretch of weather that leans favorable for storm complexes, we just wanted to remind everyone of the criteria for what a derecho is, but also take a step back to say that it doesn't have to be labeled a derecho for it to be damaging. We get wind events nearly every year that are highly impactful, but yet they are not labeled as derechoes. Think August 24th, 2023. Think March 30th and May 15th of 2025.. These dates were high-impact wind events, but they did not meet the criteria to be labeled as a derecho.
