People say that as a Christian, I believe in fairy tales & then I look at those who go on about the 'Deep State', Britain being taken over by sharia law, the woke conspiracy, @UKLabour being commies & cancel culture & I think 'it's not me who believes in fairy tales...'
@frankwrighter Henry Nowak’s father after the verdict:
“We want to use Henry’s heartbreaking story to make change for the better. We do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension. We want his story to help make our streets safer for everyone.“

@shrewsmorris Oh dear, that sounds tough. I spend more tome on Threads instead of here because of that & I try to remember the words of the Psalmist: 'Blessed are they who do not sit in the seat of the scoffers' & try & spread light & whimsy (mostly).
@aaron_p_edwards I think English politicians, whatever do love their country, however imperfectly. I'm not sure as to what the 'political establishment' are, but there's a fair amout of establishment & 'dark money' behind Reform/Restore.
NB: Not 'hate', more laugh at & regard with derision.
@icelandcricket WG Grace, Jack Hobbs (didn't he score half his centuries after becoming 40), but in the modern era & because he's a fast bowler, Jimmy.
@aaron_p_edwards Restore seems to meet some of the accepted acedemic definitions of 'far right', such as nativism & exclusionism, much as that might arouse your ire. I think it will further splinter the far right & is likely to become an electoral irrelevance, like UKIP, in the near future.
@JohnBaldLangLit@OliverKamm She's undoubtedly got results & many children's lives have been turned around because of her. I felt that she seemed to use that as a platform to indulge in the culture war & I felt that the way she talked about 'my staff' a little overbearing, but I take your point about abuse.
At yesterday's Unite the Kingdom rally one speaker said:
"It's not too late to get Islam out of that building (Parliament)"
"It is not to late to get Islam out of every single official office in this country"
"It is absolutely vital, if we want to save this country, we have to remove Islam from every single place of authority"
If these comments were directed at British Jews, they would rightly dominate headlines nationwide, because antisemitism is wrong.
Anti-Muslim rhetoric should be treated with the same seriousness and scrutiny.
@PhilHs10@DavidLammy Ahem; the Labour Government, like any majority Government is on a fixed, 5 year term: this is the 'real world' that you talk about.
I'm glad you've polled all the British people though: thank you.
Under employment law, th
@aaron_p_edwards This is arrant nonsense- loads of 'straw man' arguments, laughable lies (Tommy Robinson? Really?), borderline racism, nonsensical points about voting & predictable far right tropes about 'flooding'. 'Shamelessly biblical"? - really?
@gpnicholls I agree with you. I've been depressed- but not suprised- at the number of angry (mainly) men who seem to know everything & are ready with instant judgement.
I'm just about to start the long journey back south to N.Yorks after a wilderness retreat. A friend leads a disparate group of us each year in temporary community, silence, talk, openness, survival & reflextion. It was challenging, but lovely in an isolated part of Mull.
