i just left the nursing home, visiting a congregant with soiled pants and very little hearing.
Our screaming conversation lasted an hour. We laughed, cried, and prayed together. I encouraged him from Isa 46.
I don’t share this to boast, but to raise awareness.
Having now sat beside countless hospital beds, I can see how lunches with my grandparents prepared me for ministry in ways I didn’t yet understand. They taught me how to slow down, listen, and simply be present with people.

You jog 4 miles every morning and your waistline hasn't improved at all. You've destroyed your knees for nothing.
Of all the ways to exercise, the light jog is one of the worst. Your ancestors walked most of the day and ran all out when they had to go after prey, or run away from a threat, or toward a child in danger. They didn't jog.
Walk. Sprint. Skip the middle.
The PCUSA recommends celebrating Reformation Sunday by:
+studying racism
+studying racial ethnic and women's ministries
+becoming an earth care congregation
+becoming ecumenical and building interfaith relationships
@DZRishmawy It’s the same in rural areas as well. Intellectual protestantism is a hard sell for many young families. Especially when those “bapticostal”churches offer child/youth care.
When I graduated college, I flirted with Open Theism.
Looking back now (15+ years), it's amazing how something so juvenile captivated me. That theology was bad. Real bad. Embarrassingly bad.
I'm thankful God delivered me from it.
This is subjective but … Name three PERFECT movies. No argument. No explanation. Just three flicks you think are perfect. Here's mine:
Jurassic Park (1993)
Back to the Future (1985)
The Matrix (1999)
A couple more thoughts. I think everyone agrees that new church plants and missions should resist growing by simply transferring members rather than through real evangelism. I appreciate @derekradney’s concern, though I don’t think it’s a widespread issue amongst MNA church planters.
What I think I’m more concerned about are the PCA churches within larger cities that started out as PCA daughter church plants, have now particularized, yet their Services of Worship would unfortunately NOT “attract Christians looking for a Presbyterian and Reformed church”.
Is it not concerning that we have PCA churches that an existing Christian who is looking for P&R fidelity would not be willing to attend? Or what about PCA members who are visiting a city yet are hesitant to visit the local PCA church plant because their Service of Worship has been so contextualized, made so relevant to the other non-denominational churches around, that their worship and liturgy look vastly different from a typical PCA Ordinary Means of Grace worship service?
The PCA must resist over-contextualization of our worship services!
@JohnStSomething Here’s an idea, how about Presbyterian churches plant Presbyterian churches.
At Covenant, we were taught to ask the community what kind of church it needs. 🙄
