The idea that the rise of Christianity had nothing to do with its substance or ideas but was only a factor of a desire for power & money is so mad it's hard to credit. Clearly no one told Polycarp (or any of the other early martyrs, or John Chrysostom, or persecuted Middle Eastern Christians etc etc etc)
The welfare state has removed the link between effort and reward. Benefits are no longer a ‘safety net’ — they’re a tax on the conscientious to reward the idle. It’s not just unfair, it’s immoral.
