Anti AI paternalism. I do not need EA nutters or governments to protect me from imaginary over exaggerated enemies & risks.
No, passport may be needed to prove identity on social media so the cops know whose door to knock on at 11:30pm for expressing an opinion the government don’t like.
Emmanuel Macron says American free speech is "the opposite of free speech." In his view, freedom only exists inside a "common framework" set by the state.
He compared posting an insult online to hitting someone in the street. Those are different things, because one is speech and the other is violence.
He wants people punished for posting "nonsense," with state-backed fact-checkers deciding what qualifies. He wants a verified identity behind every social media account. He has written to Ursula von der Leyen demanding the DSA be enforced "much faster, much more forcefully."

Random rambling that isn’t really that important.
Our soul is energy, which is how it survives the death of the physical body. If a soul is energy, then what is stopping machines and animals from having that same energy other than the humans that convince themselves humans are special in a potentially infinitely large universe 🤔
@grok what do you think?
🇯🇵 People in Japan are discovering just how evil the BBC is
They are not wrestling with their identity
They've had a Mosque forced upon them and the BBC are trying to make them think they're bad people for not wanting it
You do not hate the BBC enough
I suspect the underlying reason as to why our politicians are so interested in joining the EU is so that they get to avoid accountability for the decisions that are made.
Three times the number of students in four years are now claiming extra time for having ADHD.
At Cambridge. 🙄
Cambridge is quickly becoming a joke.

Turkish migrant Halil Dal gets NO jail for stabbing a man time after time after time with a broken bottle in Bournemouth. Received a suspended sentence
English native Danny Tommo remanded for imprisonment for 6 months, SO FAR
"You know that feeling when only water will quench your thirst but you're paying the same price as people who have a capri sun, that's not right. We're going to do something about it, we're going to regulate meal deals fairly"
The argument around who is English exposes the left as true racists.
They will point to examples of foreigners who are competent or do something good and say 'look, they're English'.
The implication is that only English people are good, so they cannot be African / Indian etc.
I’m a former Green Party member who has attended their conference. The way it works is that motions are voted on in person only. So when you get your motion on the agenda you make sure to pack the room with your supporters. The “Zionism is racism” one will therefore likely pass.
Once a motion is passed it automatically becomes part of the policy document, from which the leadership is supposed to create the manifesto. Thus, with this motion on the books, they will have to campaign in the next election on a platform of destroying the state of Israel.
I really want to try @bot, but I’m struggling to find anything my local models haven’t already automated or can’t do. They handle everything from paperwork to financials, and it’s all kept local and not trained on by AI companies.
Sucks, because I like Grok—it’s been my favourite rented AI for a while now…
Critical theory / Deconstructionism but for the foundation myth of liberal modernity.
Hilarious and inevitable.
I love that Mogg appeals to "The nation state" having recently told us it is defined as nothing but the group of people with different values, cultures and languages who choose to extract from this economic zone.
X is the modern equivalent of how East Germans used to watch Westfernsehen (West German TV) to get the news.
Most of the GDR could receive it over the air; the Dresden area, out of range in the East, was nicknamed the “valley of the clueless” (Tal der Ahnungslosen) by contrast.
That's how limited and locked down the flow of information is in the West today.
Yudkowsky: “there’s no way an infant has qualia at birth”
What I want to draw attention to here is not the horror of this, but the extreme overconfidence about something as poorly understood as consciousness. Take this into account when judging his other confident assertions.
This is misinformation and deflection from an unelected PM who tells you he is ‘honest’ … er this isn’t honest.
Ofgem itself says our bills include wholesale costs, NETWORK costs and GOVERNMENT POLICY costs (net zero bollocks)
Your own Government admits gas still sets the UK electricity price most of the time.
And what he completely leaves out is the enormous cost of the energy system successive governments have CHOSEN to build.
Renewable subsidies funded by tax payers, Grid expansion where only the shareholders make profit, balancing costs because of Mad Ed and Constraint payments to tempt private investors into business plans that don’t work without tax payer subsidies. Oh and then there’s the £ BILLIONS of new infrastructure WE ALSO HAVE TO FUND.
In fact, this year the Government moved 75% of the legacy Renewables Obligation OFF household electricity bills and onto the Exchequer, THE TAXPAYER NOW PAYS IT.
And Clean Power 2030 requires around £40 BILLION of investment every year to 2030, while NESO is forecasting £3.2bn in constraint costs over just the next 12 months.
So no, Britain does not have expensive electricity simply because we “privatised the basics”.
We have an expensive, gas linked, heavily regulated energy system carrying enormous policy and infrastructure costs.
Changing who owns the funding vehicle for the grid will not make those costs disappear.
Calling it “public control” doesn’t make energy cheap, it just makes him much less honest.
