Fryingpan Flows update from Bureau of Reclamation (10/15/19):
"The release from Ruedi Reservoir will decrease this afternoon by 50 cfs. The flow at the Fryingpan River gage below Ruedi Reservoir will change from 130 cfs to 80 cfs where it will remain for the near future."
Flows throughout the Roaring Fork Watershed continue to decline gradually. As we head into October, we also head into the 2020 water year. Learn more in our weekly River Report:
"Under the water authority’s tiered pricing system, those who use more water are charged at a higher rate. Nonetheless, the top water-use lists illustrate that for the ultra-wealthy, a costly water bill doesn’t necessarily incentivize behavior change."

A ballot initiative asking voters to approve a new gambling tax and use those tax revenue to fund water is off to a slow start in polls, though backers have raised more than $400,000 to launch an aggressive ad campaign. #cowater https://t.co/1NonOvy74r
As Colorado studies the feasibility of a special protected drought pool in Lake Powell, some of its lawmakers are questioning the need for the program. #coriver#cowater https://t.co/5Jn8oOAr2E
We need to be prepared for unprecedented low flow conditions on the #coriver in the coming years. A repeat of 2000-2004 hydrology with the temperatures of 2018 would put all users in a tremendous bind. The label behind the preparations/management tools concerns me not.
With the exception of the Fryingpan River below Ruedi Reservoir, flows continue to drop throughout the Roaring Fork Watershed. Read more in our weekly River Report:
Rivers and streams throughout the Roaring Fork Watershed continue to drop slowly, having declined by an average of 2% over the past week. Learn more in our weekly River Report:
Reservoirs across Colorado are in good condition, with above-average water storage due to last winter’s massive snowpack. With below-average precipitation and over the past three months, water shortages are still a growing concern. Learn more in our weekly River Report:
A huge thanks to @USGS for collecting streamflow data, sharing it with the public, and maintaining over 8,000 stream gauges. Without this data, our weekly River Reports would not be possible. Learn more at https://t.co/BLSSW62zVo
River levels in the Roaring Fork Watershed have dropped 20% on average from last week. The lower Fryingpan River will rise later today when the outflow from Ruedi Reservoir is increased by 50 cfs. Learn more in our weekly River Report:
