Yesterday morning, I got a message from my aunt asking me to please send ₦290,000 to a friend because she was having network problems and would send the money back the next day.

My aunt is financially better off than I am, so my instinct told me her WhatsApp had been hacked. I decided to play along.

I replied, “Okay, send the account details.”

The person sent them immediately and asked me to send the receipt after making the transfer. I told the person I would.

After about five minutes, I replied, “Yahoo boy, go and find a job.”

The person read the message and deleted the entire chat immediately.

I then called my aunt, and she confirmed that her WhatsApp had been hacked. She said someone had called her a few days earlier asking for a code she received. She sent the code, and that was it.

If any of your contacts asks you to send a large amount of money and promises to pay you back later, call the person first to confirm.
