@elonmusk The pay has not increased since 2009. This increase does not even account for lost buying power. Congress will still be making effectively less than in 2009. Increasing salaries with inflation would have them at $260,000 today. Stop acting like you are not as smart as you are.

@elonmusk I would argue our elected representatives are the most fundamentally important part of our federal republic and those who actually seek to serve constituents deserve adequate compensation so that they are able to do their jobs without relying on corruption to pay their bills.

@elonmusk Maybe we should have Congress be on a volunteer basis so that only the independently wealthy and the openly corrupt will be able to hold the positions. The percentage of federal spending that goes towards paying the national congress is negligible. Find somewhere else to cut.
