I met a delegation from Nonda Coffee Park led by Mr. Tonny Miiro Kibuuka, who briefed me on their plans to establish a coffee processing and value addition facility. I welcome this investment because it is exactly what we have always been advocating for.
Uganda should not continue exporting raw coffee. We must add value before export so that we create jobs, increase household incomes and earn more foreign exchange.
The government will support this initiative and mobilise our coffee farmers to produce more in preparation for the increased demand. I congratulate them and wish them good luck.

Shyam Jay Tanna (Tororo Municipality) used the SONA debate to call for faster progress on railway and supporting road infrastructure.

He said the project could reduce transport costs by 40%, cut travel time to Nairobi to about four hours, and create jobs and railway workshops in six major towns. He also raised concerns over delayed compensation for people whose land was acquired for the railway.

THE WEAPONIZATION OF EXTRADITION TREATIES BY DOMINANT POWERS AGAINST THE WEAKER STATES, AND THE PERPETUATION OF NEO-COLONIAL LEGACY:

Uganda has agreed to extradite its National, a one, MICHAEL KATUNGI, to U.S to be tried for crimes he allegedly committed there. Can U.S extradite its National to Uganda to be tried? The answer is NEVER! That's why it is not a party to the ICC protocol; because they can not allow their citizens to be tried by FOREIGN JURISDICTIONS. And, indeed, in CIVIL-LAW Countries, like France, Germany, Russia, Japan..., there are strict CONSTITUTIONAL/Statutory PROHIBITIONS against handing their NATIONALS over to foreign Countries to be tried.

Because, in essence, it is an abuse of the Principle of the SOVEREIGNTY OF STATES and the Principle of SOCIAL CONTRACT, ie, The SOVEREIGN STATE'S DUTY TO PROTECT ITS NATIONALS. More so, when such EXTRADITION TREATY LACKS THE POWER OF RECIPROCITY, ie, POWER ASYMMETRY, like we see in this case.

Therefore, Uganda must evoke what's known as the ACTIVE PERSONALITY PRINCIPLE where we ASSERT our own CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM against our Citizens for crimes they could have committed abroad. Therefore, Uganda must reject the EXTRADITION of KATUNGI to U.S, and instead, subject him to our own Criminal Trial, here. By so doing, we serve both JUSTICE AND OUR SOVEREIGNTY.
Even in the CA, some of us were against these one-way-traffic EXTRADITION TREATIES. But then, like now, our economic dependency and the never ending conditional aid and leverage nonsense, always determine the outcome!

It is therefore a shame, to extradite our National to U.S when U.S CAN NEVER EXTRADITE AN AMERICAN TO UGANDA. Doing so is a clear sign of the modern MASTER-SLAVE NEO-COLONIAL RELATIONS; where historical subjugation evolved into these, even, not so subtle systems of DOMINANATION.

Thomas Sankara was the revolutionary leader and president of Burkina Faso from 1983 to 1987. Known as “Africa’s Che Guevara,” Sankara aimed to free his country from poverty, corruption and foreign dependence.

Sankara introduced sweeping social and economic reforms. He improved education and healthcare, launching vaccination campaigns that protected millions of children from diseases such as measles and meningitis. He promoted local food production and sought to reduce dependence on foreign aid. As part of his fight against corruption, he cut government luxury spending and lived a modest lifestyle himself.

He strongly supported women’s rights. He banned forced marriages and female genital mutilation, and encouraged women to serve in government and the military. Sankara also placed great importance on environmental protection, planting millions of trees to combat desertification.

Thomas Sankara was killed in a military coup on 15 October 1987. He was 37 years old. His independent stance against foreign powers, particularly France, as well as IMF policies and imperialism, is widely regarded as one of the key factors that led to his assassination.
