I built this tracking app to gather information as efficiently as possible and turn it into something we can use before, during and after a game.
What do we know going in? How are we doing? How did we do?
I tried using computer vision to track zone time from our game film. Where the puck is looks doable. It usually matches my tracking and sometimes changes zones before I do. Who has the puck is harder, but automating territory would make tracking time on attack more manageable.
When I started coaching, I learned there were lots of decisions to make and I found having data helped with these decisions. Started with markings on a whiteboard, but I had to wipe it clean each period. So I built a tracking tool and now our staff can see game data in real time.
A great piece of feedback I got this weekend was that the automated scorebug made it easier for one person to handle the broadcast. ScoreKeep fed in the score, clock, and shots on goal, so they could focus on everything else.
Heading to the College Hockey South Prospect Showcase this weekend in Nashville. I’ve updated how SyncSports handles goal clipping. Instead of YouTube timestamp links, each goal will have a video clip that can be downloaded and shared.
An example from last season’s playoffs:

Recruitment is important and takes a lot of time. Tracking conversations with prospects, campus visits, remembering when to follow up. I found spreadsheets only worked so well, so I created a system where I can see exactly who needs to be contacted today and what to say.
Getting alumni onto the platform was step one. Keeping them engaged was the real challenge. Added a newsletter feature that pulls together chat activity and game recaps into one email keeping everyone in the loop.
