Interesting how the meaning of words changes over time. For example, at airports, boarding used to mean you’d be getting on the plane whereas today it means you’ll be herded into a stairwell to wait for an hour.
I decided today that I’m going to see if I can find the restaurant with the highest number of brothers. I am on strike and have nothing better to do with my time. Please join me.
@Strava The basis of this calculation isn't perfect (e.g. it doesn't account for the spec of car not being driven) but it quantifies the benefits of commuting by active modes for a ~typical~ commute.
A new feature rolled out by @Strava gives an estimated Carbon Saving for activities marked as a "Commute" when compared with car commuting.

The cashier in the coffee shop said "That's gonna be €7.20" and my 114-year-old mother said "Ok can you tell me when it actually is €7.20 and I'll pay it then" and everyone in the coffee shop applauded.
Bank holidays are great for everything but web sales so until midnight Sunday we'll increase our usual donation of 1% of all our revenue to @Womens_Aid to 10%. Any RT's to spread the word are gratefully received. https://t.co/RwNTJAfitn
Those BBC negotiations in full:
“Delete the tweets”
“No”
“Okay, well, apologise for them”
“No”
“We’ll get somebody else in to do your job if you don’t”
*Everyone downs tools*
“Will you at least promise not to tweet political stuff in the future?”
“No”
“Okay, we have a deal”
Good news! @eir has confirmed that 30 of their old broken phoneboxes will be removed from Dublin city over the coming weeks 🥳 They've given me a list of the ones they will remove. They won't be replaced with new ad displays either.
Last year, I went through 22 planning applications for these eir 'telephone kiosks' which are primarily just advertising units. This week, I made 7 planning enforcement complaints to Dublin City Council and hope to submit several more.
We can understand Russia easier if we see it as an Iberoamerican-type empire that didn't break up yet. Russian Federation holding Siberia is not unlike Spain holding Mexico or Portugal holding Brazil
(You can get Eurasianism better if you see it as the Russian Lusotropicalism)
By cutting costs with fewer beacons or more solar, Dublin City Council plans to try out more zebra crossings. But an NCBI spokesperson says they’re not as safe for visually impaired people as crossings with lights to stop cars, bleeps to say when to walk.

@stephen_coyne @JanetPHorner@ONCE_oficial Link to ONCE document, in Spanish, below. Table on p.10 sets out access issues for B/VI pedestrians, comparing with non-B/VI users who can cross safely using their sense of vision. Key takeaway: multisensory design is critical for people with sensory loss.

@stephen_coyne @JanetPHorner Good question, Stephen. @ONCE_oficial, the organisation for people who are blind or vision impaired in Spain, has published design guidance for safe movement in the public realm, comparing accessibility requirements for B/VI + non-B/VI pedestrians.
