“Well shucks, I guess win more than we lose and beat clemson” was quite literally our definition of a successful football season from 1971-1992.
I personally loved it when our all-time winningest football coach came in and told us in no certain terms how stupid that mindset was.
This is how leaving the ACC still haunts us. For so many years, we had no conference to deal with. No championships to compete for. Our only measuring stick was beating clemson. So many fans still carry this mindset despite being in the SEC for *34 years.*
I’m not sure who it was or if it was live or not; but I was banging my steering wheel this morning listening to 107.5 while driving through Columbia.
1 person said - (don’t quote to an exact T) but 7-6 with a win over Clemson would be considered a good season. Couldn’t be more wrong imo.
We have to have at minimum 8 at the end of the regular season; if not 9. We have to stop putting so much emphasis on beating Clemson. Who gives a 💩 what they are doing. Focus on us & what will get us to the playoffs.
I’d take 10-2 every regular season with a loss to Clemson instead of 9-3, 8-4 with a win over them.
When Spurrier stopped worrying about Clemson, we started beating them on a consistent basis.
I know it’s become pretty cliche and cringey to talk about at this point but if you’re under like 25 I cannot stress enough how one time Obama wore a tan suit and people spent a week arguing over whether or not it was demeaning to the Oval Office and they were serious about it.
The Curt Cignetti College Football 27 cover looks like the poster for a 1994 Disney movie in which a recently divorced NFL head coach decides to coach an underachieving high school team of misfits as a way to reconnect with his son who's grown distant after his parents split up.
No one is more annoyed by the AI revolution than people who can actually write a sentence. Basically, having any ability to write now is suspect - you will get accused of being AI at some point. It feels like you are being accused of being a witch, of holding a type of rare magic that only the machines are now allowed to have.
