🚨BREAKING: A 19-year-old already out on bail in another felony case now stands accused of stalking and killing 73-year-old Rachell Summers in broad daylight outside a Capitola mall.

Court filings say Tyler Leibelt told police he’d wanted to kill someone for a long time. He turned his phone off so no one could reach him, called it a “done deal,” and bought two switchblades — “one for each hand.”

Prosecutors say he followed Summers, ran her down, and stabbed her over 11 times as she begged “Help me.”

Summers wasn’t just an artist and writer. She managed the Art of Santa Cruz gallery for years and was deeply loved in the community — the person friends called the “right hand” who held it all together.

Leibelt is now jailed without bail in Santa Cruz County. His arraignment was delayed to July 29. He’s charged with first-degree murder and faces 25 to life.

A woman who should still be alive isn’t — because a suspect who shouldn’t have been free, was.
