Had @cnn and @msnow covered Lee’s surrender to Grant at Appomattox in April 1865, they’d have immediately pronounced “the Confederacy has won!” After all, Lee’s army kept its weapons, Confederate Pres Jefferson Davis was still at large, and slavery still persisted. @MarkHalperin
