Orange Is The New Black & Castlevania had new seasons nearly every year. Not a lot of episodes per season, but they still came out frequently enough that we didn’t forget what happened between seasons 🤔

I think I’ve only ever used “if I would have known” for very empathic focus on the hypothetical of knowing. It’s definitely not my go-to though, I’m more likely to just stress “had” strongly.

@word0taku For many people, “succinct” itself is a word that was made succinct.

In other words spelled with _cce_ or _cci_, the 1st c is said as a k & the 2nd c as an s (ex. accident, success). But many people don’t say suck-sinkt, they succinctly reduce both c’s to just an s sound 😅

@ronsterd89 I have, it’s not my thing because most sandwiches I eat would sog them up too easily.

I do mess with putting plain crushed up chips as the topmost topping on a hotdog sometimes though. A chili dog is best for it, but a regular hotdog works fine with it too.

@LeopoldParker1 @suchnerve I don’t know about this particular phenomenon, but “would” is a subjunctive for all intents and purposes, as it is the past tense of “will”

For most people “would” is simply conditional, but it is also very much a subjunctive as well.

@suchnerve Like, in my dialect the subjunctive goes beyond just expressing wishes or commands, it’s also used in some hypotheticals

E.g. Gwen Stefani’s Rich Girl in my dialect would be “If I were a rich girl” instead of the song’s non-subjunctive dialect of “If I was a rich girl” 😅

@suchnerve In many English dialects, the subjunctive is on its way out, but in my dialect it’s steadfast

I use it unwaveringly, but where I live now has largely abandoned it. So as an ESL teacher here, it can cause awkward teaching moments due to my native predilection for subjunctive 😭

I recognize B99 & Zootopia are NOT real, so they don’t influence my real-world opinions on cops, maybe y’all do though, check on it 🤷‍♂️

It is CLEAR some people never got hit for running their mouth like that, and baby I can’t wait for when they mouth off to the wrong person & get popped in the mouth like they deserve 🤷‍♂️

But, I can no longer give the benefit of the doubt that anyone will discuss in good faith, as so much discourse now devolves into denying implications as if what was said was in a vacuum 🙄
