I think the main aspect is to be your own reviewer. Doing a hand study is most valuable when you go back through, see what works and what doesnt.
Similar to getting better at chess, intentionality is essential because it allows you to be “wrong”. But if its practice it doesnt matter.
Calling your shot and then reviewing your attempt is how you become your own source of knowledge
Do you recommend the book or is it a skip?
its so funny to me when people are like "i need to find my art style" and then in the same breath are asking for step by step tutorials on how to draw absolutely everything....figuring out how YOU draw things is the only way to develop an art style LOL
My guess is because traditional mediums arent as “complete” as other forms, the style and the medium are intertwined.
I like line economy and patterns and crispness, and pen and ink is a cathedral to those basically.
I do like dip pen, but i prefer to spazz out and draw like the wind. Reinking sometimes ruins my immersion.
The first step of drawing is noticing. Noticing how a tables lines change as you walk around it. Or the direction water goes down the shower drain. The way a persons poster shifts when someone walks in the room. I dont do much abstract art, but i dont think id approach it any differently
I think maybe if i was friends with guys before fourth grade, being told how much potential i had would have been invigorated and inspired instead of debilitated. Either way, there are interesting down stream effects. Like feeling out of place no matter the group of people
