As promised, I’m dropping more NHIF/SHA data that should make every Kenyan uncomfortable.🚨

In January 2024, then CS Nakhumicha suspended several hospitals over alleged fraud.

One of them was Afya Bora Hospital.

What wasn’t public at the time?

We can reveal that between 2018 and 2024, this hospital (which only opened in 2018) received KES 800 million from NHIF.

Look at the pattern:

2018–2020: They recieved steady monthly payments averaging KES 3.3M–5.4M under the name Afya Bora hospital.

Then, in 2022-2023, something changed.

They started receiving payments under "Afya Bora Hospital Annex."

The average transaction size jumped to KES 18.92 million - a 330% increase.

Here are their five largest single disbursements:

- KES 39.5 million - 16 Dec 2022
- KES 36.5 million - 15 Sep 2022
- KES 35.1 million - 14 Jun 2023
- KES 35.0 million - 23 Aug 2022
- KES 35.0 million -16 Nov 2022
Those five payments alone total over KES 180 million.

But it gets even more interesting.

When we checked the hospital's registration details on the KMPDC database, we found Afya Bora Healthcare and another small clinic. There was no listing for "Afya Bora Hospital Annex."

That raises even more questions.

Hospital annexes are routinely registered with KMPDC, so having an annex itself isn't unusual. What's unusual is that Afya Bora Hospital Annex doesn't appear to be registered at all.

If that's the case, why was NHIF making tens of millions of shillings in payments to an entity described as "Afya Bora Hospital Annex"?

That's a question the relevant authorities need to answer that seems to not make sense.

Serious other questions remain:
- What exactly happened to the investigations after the suspension?
- Why the sudden name change and explosion in payouts right before the suspension?
- Where did the money actually go?
- How much went missing?

He has directed NITA and training institutions to harmonise their curriculum.

He has called for "career progression" pathways.

He has ordered an end to the terms "watchmen" and "guards", they must now be called "private security officers."

And on salaries, the familiar warning: employers who fail to pay the minimum wage will face the law. "Mambo ni matatu."

Strip away the packaging, and nothing structural has changed.

A new title does not put food on the table. Harmonised training is useful only if the industry actually pays for skilled labour.

Career progression means little when the base wage remains at starvation level and enforcement is virtually non-existent.

Kenya already has a PSRA-gazetted minimum wage of KSh 30,000 that most firms simply ignore while still winning government contracts. Another presidential warning changes none of that.

Until the state is willing to revoke licences, blacklist non-compliant firms from public tenders, and treat underpayment as the serious labour crime it is, these announcements remain political theatre.

The guards will keep working 12-hour shifts for poverty wages. The companies will keep pocketing the difference. And the cycle continues.

Optics are cheap. Dignity is expensive.

There’s a reason they won’t push this as Grand Coalition, because they know very well this is the kind of coalition that has the potential to serve Kenyans, not their interests.

A Maraga, Omtatah and Sifuna led government has the potential to right so many wrongs in this country. That is exactly why the conversation will quickly shift to who can bring votes, who has numbers and who is “electable”, not because they care about Kenya but because they need politicians they can control and who will protect the very system that has looted this country for decades.

This idea that we need Person A, B or C because they will “bring votes” needs to end.
Go out there and campaign for the candidate you believe in, talk to your family, talk to your cousins, talk to your grandparents, form groups, have conversations, convince people… this is how democracies are won.

No one has a monopoly on votes in this country. As someone once said, THE VOTER IS THE KINGMAKER!!

Why are we waiting for the same political class that helped ruin this country to tell us which direction Kenya should take? Until we understand that the opposition is not a group of wealthy politicians fighting each other but you, the people, demanding better leadership, we will keep surrendering our power to those who have never had our interests at heart.

We are living through many firsts - anything and everything is possible.

This “free university” bill is looking less like freedom and more like a lifetime debt trap.

What we know so far:
- 4% interest
- Up to 25% of your salary deducted
- Repayment starts one year after you get a job
- Fail to pay - court action, and your assets can be seized

Remember, University fees have already gone up… and they can still rise.

So "free" today could mean paying until you retire.

Many young people will walk out with degrees and straight into debt that follows them for decades.

If you (or your child) can fund even 80% of your education yourself, seriously consider it.

Parents, students, recent graduates…
Are we sleepwalking into another HELB-style burden, only bigger.

One of my biggest concerns about Sifuna deputizing some of the established political elites is the risk that comes with it. If he stands his ground on matters of principle or refuses to support decisions he believes are wrong, he could easily become a target for impeachment. That would not only derail his political career but also deny Kenyans the opportunity to elect a leader with great potential in the future.

For that reason, I don't support him deputizing anyone in that camp. If he has to be a running mate, Maraga would be the better choice because he has built a reputation around integrity and respect for institutions. Sifuna's political future is too important to be left at the mercy of the same political class that has dominated Kenyan politics for decades.

People keep saying, "Sifuna can't win unless Gachagua, Kalonzo, or Matiang'i support him." That's the mindset that has kept Kenya trapped in the same political cycle for decades.

Those leaders don't own your vote. They each cast one vote, just like you. It is citizens not political kingpins who elect a president.

If you genuinely believe Sifuna, Maraga, or any other reform-minded candidate can transform the country, then support and vote for them. Stop demanding that they become deputies just to satisfy the old political order while the same familiar faces occupy the top seat.

We cannot demand a different outcome while clinging to the same politics of endorsements, negotiations, and elite deals. The greatest political force in Kenya is not a coalition of politicians, it's an informed voter who refuses to be dictated to.

Kenya's government now plans to scrap university scholarships and replace them with 100% government-funded student loans under a proposed Bill.

If passed, graduates will repay the loans after securing employment, with deductions capped at 25% of their earnings.
