Lots of humour in The King’s speech. All delivered with a twinkle in the eye. Content aside, simply as a public speaker, I’m not sure any British politician can match him
For sixteen years, a country of ten million people with an economy smaller than most mid-tier corporations held the entire European Union hostage.
Not through military strength, not through economic leverage, but through a single procedural exploit:
the unanimity requirement.
Orban understood that the EU bloc itself only offers veto as a commodity,
and he sold it to the highest bidders.
This is now at an end.
Orban was not running Hungary.
He was running a service: veto-for-hire, sovereignty-for-rent.
The ideology; the whole christian civilization, anti-migration, peace
that was the selling point.
People don’t know how significant this is to the Middle East.
Hungary was the only EU member state that systematically blocked joint statements condemning Israeli operations, vetoed settler sanctions, shielded the EU-Israel association agreement from review, and withdrew from the ICC to offer Netanyahu the only European capital willing to receive him.
Not anymore.
That’s all done.
The ground is shifting under everyone and people have yet to realize it.
EU's von der Leyen on trade deal with India:
We did it. We delivered the mother of all deals.
We are creating a market of two billion people.
It will cut up to four billion euros in annual tariffs for exporters of all sizes.
President Macron slams President Trump,
"We do prefer respect to bullies"
"We do prefer science to politicism"
"And we prefer rule of law to brutality"
"Having a place like Europe which is predictable, loyal, and where you know the rule of the game is the rule of law, it's a good place"
Maybe England, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Norway and Italy should all pause participation in the World Cup while the various tariff negotiations continue with President Trump? 8 of the 10 favoured teams to win withdrawing might concentrate some minds.
With MAGA rediscovering American exceptionalism and thinking Europe to be the underdeveloped backwater where we live in underground holes and bow hunt rats for survival, I've decided to do a short thread tackling some of the many failures of the American education system.🧵
