On Friday my bill and resolution to eliminate property tax in Kansas were introduced. SCR1621 is a resolution that when passes will go to the people to vote on eliminating all property tax in the Kansas constitution. SB488 is the mechanism to replace the property tax revenue. Quite simply it is a small retail purchase fee on the first $20 of retail sales, everyone pays it, no exceptions. 7.6% capping out at $1.60 for any purchase over $20. Groceries, utilities, prescription drugs, gas/diesel, rent/mortgage, child care, K-12 tuition, all business to business purchases are exempt.
Property taxes paid 2026 are cut in half, 2027 are 25% and 2028 and going forward, gone forever.
@Murphy4KS Mike, just saw your bill and I think your input with the current Wichita eagle article would be amazing. Honestly if you can get some interviews with news stations I think you would strike while the iron is hot. #propertytaxistheft
@JerryMoran I hope you come out and support Rick Scott, we are all watching. Also why mot tell Mitch the secret ballet business is not the way we should do business.
