When funding a roofed waterfront AFL stadium gets more attention than putting a roof over the head of homeless Tasmanian families, you know a Tas Human Rights Act is needed to refocus priorities.
A Rally for a Tasmanian Human Rights Act. 26 Nov. #politas
I write in the Mercury today about International Human Rights Day on 10 December, which will be the 75th Anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
It's time for a Tasmanian Human Rights Act! #politas
(second screen shot follows)
Really @themercurycomau? Your Friday 21/3 editorial implies we won't need a Truth & Reconciliation Park at MacPoint if we get an AFL stadium because there would be "no better place than a stadium for Indigenous people to stand tall and be seen around the nation". How shortsighted
Tasmania's privacy laws have stood still since passed by parliament way back in 2004 at a different time when Facebook was in its infancy and Twitter not yet invented. The recent hacking tells us it is time for serious update and reform #politas
@JoshWillie1 Thank you for sharing. The email I've received today as a parent of school kids encourages us to remain 'vigilant'. We can't do that in an information vacuum.
“Every Tasmanian has a right to a healthy environment and the assurance that nature is safe.” Bob Brown.
Rally for a Human Rights Act next Saturday in Hobart.

Consultation on Tas Anti-Protest Laws shuts tomorrow (Thursday 23 Sep) at 5pm.
We say "The combined effect of increased penalties and uncertain laws is a poor outcome for freedom of expression and participatory democracy because it risks frightening people into silence."
Was given this sticker for Christmas and have been wondering where to put it. Having now read the planning application for the cable car as lodged with HCC, I'm sticking it here on Twitter.
@UrbanLorax @CassyOConnorMP That is quite a sight. Puts a new perspective on the statement in the planning application that the interruptions to the skyline "do not change the character of this area, merely the extent of the character".
Mt Wellington Cableway Company's planning application says the proposed interruptions to the skykline "do not change the character of this area, merely the extent of this character". 🤔
Wouldn't a change to the extent of something's character mean it's character had changed?
The people of Clark are spoilt for choice if they want to vote for a candidate who supports better human rights laws in Tasmania. See the results of our candidate survey: https://t.co/0usLCQEU3W #politas
@tonypark50 @CassyOConnorMP The Victorians made the point about rights and responsibilities clear in the title of their laws "Charter of Rights and Responsibilities". For a collection of case studies that illustrate the benefits delivered by Victoria’s law: https://t.co/VvuJ3XZxQJ
Tasmania & Australia are among the only democratic jurisdictions in the world without legislated human rights protection, so government & industry can trample on the rights of citizens without sanction.
We need to put human rights before government & corporate rights.

It does feel like the campaign against the Anti-Protest laws has been years long. This is a 2013 "soap box" piece when they were an election promise from the Liberal Opposition #politas
Thank you to members of the Leg Co for listening to the concerns of the community and applying rigorous scrutiny to the proposed anti-protest laws. These proposals were were anti-democratic and dangerous and our State will be better off without them.
