The problem with the current regime's version of Indonesian nationalism is how it is land-centric, not people-centric.

It's always "Indonesia is rich" or "Indonesia is big".

It's never "Indonesians are smart" or "Indonesians are hard-working".

Sumatra is rich. But what about people who actually live in Sumatra?

According to land-centric nationalism, the answer is "who cares, they can just die in a flood or something".

This is not some hypotheticals. We are observing this happening in real time right now.

The present regime has no use of us actual living people. They only want to dig the land and take the coal.

Unlike natural resources, human resources need to be developed. They need schools, housing, healthcare, security from violent thugs, the certainty of law, cheap logistics and transports system, and access to capital.

Only then can they reach and show their true potentials.

You can dig gold mines with slaves. You can't build automobile factories with slaves.

To build factories, you need massive amounts of competent, empowered engineers and technicians who will demand salary and dignity.

A true Indonesian Nationalism, being people-centric instead of land-centric, aspires to unhesitatingly proclaim the following: "Indonesians are smart. Indonesians are hard-working. Indonesians are creative."

If the average Indonesians are still dumb and unskilled, build schools and pay the teachers.

"People-centric nationalism". The current regime does not have that. They do not care about the people part. The regime only cares about the land part, because there's coal under it.
