In a report commissioned from CBI Economics, evidence suggests (to nobody's surprise) that rather than increasing tax take, the proposed changes to APR/BPR will overall lead to a net loss of £1.9bn over the Parliament.
Keir Starmer explained to the Gov't Liaison Committee that this was a revenue-raising measure and nothing more. Given the evidence shows it will actually cost the Treasury money, the best thing to do now would be to reverse the proposal.

The last few days have flown by! 27 admissions so far this week and 17 releases. This is little Marble who came into us today and is looking much bright (and significantly warmer!) having spent a few hours in one of our incubators 🫶🦔🐾
What an incredibly busy day… 14 new admissions! And we have a further 7 lined up at veterinary practices across the county to come in tomorrow.
If you have a hedgehog in trouble or need advice please give us a call, emails and social media are not monitored whilst so busy.
It’s been an incredibly busy few days, we have been inundated with hedgehogs found out during the daytime, weak, dehydrated and hypothermic. The team have been providing intensive care to try and stabilise them. We are now up to 118 admissions this month alone and have 98 onsite.
A very busy day at the rescue 9 admissions, 3 releases and a vet visit! Aurelius here spent the day warming in one of our incubators and receiving intensive care 🫶🦔🐾
Yesterday was an incredibly busy day for us with 10 admissions in the space of just 2 hours, we currently have 106 onsite but thankfully lots of releases organised for the next few days 💚🦔🐾
Our 1,000th admission of the year & an URGENT APPEAL for food.
Tetley is 1 of 9 admissions today! We are running desperately low on wet food and with 90+ 🦔 onsite we are going through a lot. https://t.co/Aqym0RbQnF
Introducing Patsy 🥺
This poor girl has severe ringworm and very sore inflamed feet. She has been with us for a couple of days now and her feet are responding well to treatment, the ringworm will take time to treat and recover from though.
Migeul is beating all the odds! He had severe flystrike and was collapsed as well as injured when he was admitted to Penmellyn St Austell. Their team did a brilliant job at cleaning him up and we got him straight over to the rescue and into an incubator, just look at him now!
